Bringing in a Heavy Hitter for an Iconic Villain

So far, DC fans have been treated to introspective looks at a few different Batman rogues in live action, from Joker to Penguin and the forthcoming, “Clayface.” Next on the list, Poison Ivy, apparently. According to Deadline’s sources, “The Penguin” showrunner executive producer Lauren LeFranc is getting involved as a producer for a Poison Ivy-focused DC TV series from Warner Bros. and DC Comics. The show would live on HBO, if picked up.

However, just because LeFranc is involved doesn’t necessarily mean Dr. Pamela Isley will be appearing in Matt Reeves’ Bat-verse, which stars Robert Pattinson as the Batman and Colin Farrell as Penguin. She’s also only attached as a producer, not a writer; currently, no writers are attached. The series, which has been in the works for awhile, was put on ice for a bit while the Warner Bros.-Paramount merger was being figured out. Now, details seem to be forming with this latest bit of tea.

Poison Ivy, created by Carmine Infantino and Robert Kanigher, is one of Batman’s most popular female supervillains and is a founding member of the Gotham City Sirens (along with Catwoman and Harley Quinn). Ivy started her life as Dr. Pamela Isley and through a series of male bullshit (she would approve this wording), she was given power over the Green a.k.a. a powerful, cosmic force that connects all of nature.

A Poison Ivy TV series would be a welcome and refreshing way to continue DC’s focus on Bat-villains, which have been mostly men so far. While we don’t know any details about the plot, it’s likely to include her origins, Jason Woodrue (Floronic Man), her eco-terrorism, her anti-billionaire stance, fights with Batman, and possibly her romance with Harley Quinn. It would be interesting to see an Ivy series that directly tackles climate change and how it affects our environment head-on, especially because that’s been a focus of hers in the comics lately.

Catch Up on the Green Goddess

Poison Ivy is currently on a generational run from G. Willow Wilson in her own ongoing, solo series and is the catalyst for the current “Bad Seeds” event that features many members of the Bat-family. She’s also one of the leading ladies of “Harley Quinn,” the animated series on HBO Max, where her relationship with Harley is explored in hilariously sweet fashion.
