The joy of a show like Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is knowing where things go. When the Stranger appeared, fans knew that Daniel Weyman would be playing Gandalf in the series. We knew that Charlie Vickers was our Sauron and when the reveal happened, it still had us excited. So heading into season 3, it isn’t surprising that Sauron is heading to the fires of Mordor but still the latest trailer for the new season has us all talking.
“I see the path to victory so certain,” Sauron says in the trailer and for fans of Lord of the Rings, this has always been the joy of Sauron in Rings of Power. That means though that the red eye in the sky of Middle Earth was going to have to, eventually, craft the One Ring to Rule Them All. And while the wait has been 70+ years in the making, getting to see the creation of the ring that Frodo and Samwise take to Mount Doom has been worth it.
Part of what makes The Rings of Power such a beautiful series is that we can see the makings of what is to come. The Harfoots are about to find the Shire and become the Hobbits we know and love, we saw a glimpse of Rivendell at the end of season 2, and all of these things make the show a rich exploration for fans in the same way that The Hobbit movies were. But with this trailer for season 3, fans are getting to experience a part of Lord of the Rings that they have been waiting for.
Is there going to be a stop to this? Yes, we know that. But that doesn’t dismiss how exciting this season is going to be. That’s kind of what has always made Lord of the Rings so much fun to explore. You get to see the world that J.R.R. Tolkien built and it is less about the “mystery” of things and more about the celebration of the world as a whole. But also, we have been waiting to see that one ring!
