Netflix has dismissed their head of film, Dan Lin, after almost three years on the job. The streamer had a massive round of layoffs recently with over 1000 employees getting laid off. This includes executives like Dan Lin and chief content officer Bela Bajaria. Lin was let go over the weekend but was at several events on behalf of Netflix like a screening of La Bola Negra and the Academy Gala on Saturday.
Netflix has no comment on the matter and there’s no word on a replacement for Lin in his position. There’s speculation that recently free agent Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy have been in talks with Netflix about possible roles at the company. They were recently let go from Warner Bros after serving as the heads of WB Motion Picture Group.
This is the latest in a long line of changes happening to Netflix. They’ve had issues with engagement and stock stagnation, which somewhat stems from their ill-fated bid to buy Warner Bros. They hired Peter Rice to replace Bela Bajaria at her position. Lin wasn’t the only one in his department that saw layoffs, his right hand Doug Belgrad and vertical indie head Sheroum Kim also were laid off.
Who Is Dan Lin And What Has He Done?

Dan Lin rose to prominence as a producer at Rideback. He’s been a producer on films like It, It: Chapter Two, The LEGO Movie, and Sherlock Holmes. He replaced Scott Stuber at Netflix and was involved with greenlighting or acquiring 88 movies for Netflix. Some of the highlights of his tenure include Apex, Emelia Perez, Here Comes The Flood, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, and the upcoming Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.
As for his next move, we’ll have to see where Dan Lin goes from here. Either way this is pretty earth-shattering news from Netflix with all these changes to their hierarchy.
