Production has commenced on The Housemaid’s Secret, the highly anticipated sequel to the $400 million worldwide hit The Housemaid franchise, starring Sydney Sweeney, directed by Paul Feig, and based on the bestselling book by Freida McFadden. The first film gripped audiences after the novel had already had readers enamored with its thrilling story.
Also returning are the producers: Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman; Laura Fischer and Feig, who produce for Pretty Dangerous Pictures; and Sweeney, through her Honey Trap banner. Rebecca Sonnenshine, who also adapted The Housemaid, returns to adapt the screenplay to The Housemaid’s Secret.
As Sweeney returns as Millie, joining her in the starring roles are Kirsten Dunst, who plays Mrs. Garrick; Paul Anthony Kelly, as Douglas Garrick; Brittany Snow will also star as Marybeth; Stephen Kalyn in the role of Brock; and Michele Morrone, who also returns to star as Enzo, reprising his role from the first film.
In The Housemaid’s Secret, Millie returns, taking a job keeping house for a woman she’s never allowed to see, only to discover the truth behind the locked door that threatens to expose secrets far darker than her own.
Lionsgate identified and optioned Freida McFadden’s literary trilogy (plus a fourth entry, a short story) early on, long before the books became New York Times bestsellers, recognizing the series’ massive potential. With The Housemaid’s Secret set to enter production later this year, the studio anticipates adapting even more of McFadden’s beloved thrillers from the world of The Housemaid in the years ahead.
Carly Elter, who oversaw the first movie for Hidden Pictures, is returning as executive producer. Alex Young of Hidden Pictures will also executive produce. Honey Trap’s Kaylee McGregor will co-produce.
The Housemaid’s Secret will open on December 17, 2027.
