Beyond Fest is giving M. Night Shyamalan fans a pretty incredible reason to head to Los Angeles this September.
The genre film festival has announced Night Visions: The Shock and Awe of M. Night Shyamalan, a massive retrospective celebrating the filmmaker’s career with 12 feature films spanning 27 years. Even better, Shyamalan will attend several of the screenings in person for special introductions and post-screening Q&As.
The retrospective marks the first West Coast retrospective of Shyamalan’s work with the filmmaker himself in attendance.
A Career Built on Suspense and the Unexpected

Shyamalan has spent nearly three decades putting his own spin on supernatural stories, thrillers, superhero movies and apocalyptic nightmares. Few filmmakers have developed such a recognizable style while working within so many different genres.
From The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable to Signs, Split and Trap, Shyamalan has repeatedly built stories around ordinary people facing extraordinary circumstances.
Night Visions will bring together some of the most important films from that career, giving audiences a chance to experience them on the big screen alongside the filmmaker who created them.
“M. Night Shyamalan is one of the defining filmmakers of modern cinema,” said Evrim Ersoy, Head of Programming at Beyond Fest. Ersoy praised Shyamalan for pursuing a deeply personal vision while working on a massive cinematic scale.
That personal approach is exactly what makes this retrospective so interesting. Shyamalan’s films can be divisive, but there is rarely any question about who directed them.
The Eastrail 177 Trilogy
The centerpiece of the retrospective will be a screening of Shyamalan’s Eastrail 177 Trilogy, featuring Unbreakable, Split and Glass.
The trilogy will screen at the Egyptian Theatre on Sunday, September 27 at 11 AM, followed by a post screening Q&A with Shyamalan.
The three films represent one of Shyamalan’s boldest ideas, transforming superhero mythology into something much more psychological and grounded. The story explores identity, trauma, belief and the idea that extraordinary abilities could exist beneath an otherwise ordinary life.
Aliens, Apocalypses and Paranoia
The Egyptian Theatre will also host Signs and Knock at the Cabin on September 27 at 7 PM.
The two films explore humanity facing seemingly impossible threats, while also examining faith, sacrifice and family.
On Monday, September 28, Shyamalan will appear for a screening of The Visit and Trap. The pairing highlights another recurring element of his filmmaking, turning familiar locations into increasingly terrifying traps.
The Visit transforms a family trip into a nightmare, while Trap places its central cat and mouse game inside a packed concert.
The Film That Started It All
Perhaps the biggest event comes Tuesday, September 29, when Beyond Fest screens The Sixth Sense at the Egyptian Theatre.
The 1999 supernatural thriller became a cultural phenomenon and established Shyamalan as one of the biggest young filmmakers in Hollywood. The film earned widespread acclaim while becoming a massive box office success.
Shyamalan will provide an introduction and participate in a post screening Q&A.
The retrospective will also continue at the Los Feliz 3 with The Village, Old and Lady in the Water.
For fans who have followed Shyamalan throughout his career, Night Visions offers something rare: the opportunity to see a huge selection of his films on the big screen while hearing directly from the filmmaker about how they came together.
Beyond Fest has essentially built a crash course in M. Night Shyamalan cinema, and this is one retrospective genre fans will not want to miss.
