Neon’s Hokum, starring Adam Scott and directed by Damian McCarthy, opened to $6.4 million across 1,885 screens this weekend at the box office. That is a solid start for a low budget horror entry set in a haunted Irish inn. Especially considering the crowded field it entered. The film lands at number five, trailing a lineup dominated by major studio releases. Including The Devil Wears Prada 2, Michael, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and Project Hail Mary, all of which benefited from significantly wider distribution.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 Opens Strong

The Devil Wears Prada 2 debuted with $77.0 million.
That opening lands comfortably within its projected range and close to the $85 million estimate. The film capitalized on strong brand recognition and a well executed marketing campaign, drawing in both returning fans and a new audience. It may not have shattered expectations, but it delivered exactly what was needed to secure a decisive first place finish.
Michael Holds Strong in Second
Michael brought in $54.0 million.
After last weekend’s record setting debut, the film posted a strong hold. Even with a major new release entering the market, it continues to perform at a high level and remains one of the dominant theatrical draws.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Continues Its Run

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie earned $12.1 million.
Now well into its theatrical run, the film continues to generate steady numbers. While it has stepped back from its earlier dominance, its staying power remains one of the more consistent success stories of the year.
Project Hail Mary Winds Down
Project Hail Mary added $8.6 million.
The film continues its gradual decline after a strong early run. With multiple newer releases taking over screens, its drop is expected as it moves toward the final phase of its box office life cycle.
Hokum Debuts in Fifth

Hokum opened with $6.4 million.
For a lower budget horror release, this is a respectable debut. It lacked the scale to challenge the bigger titles above it, but still connected with its core audience and carved out a spot in the top five.
Next Weekend’s Predictions
Next weekend brings a diverse slate of new releases. Mortal Kombat II is tracking between $40,000,000 and $50,000,000, and the strength of the brand plus its built in fanbase should drive it toward a debut around $48,000,000.
Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour is projecting between $8,000,000 and $16,000,000. Concert films can be unpredictable, but with a dedicated fanbase, a $10 million opening seems like a reasonable expectation.
Meanwhile, The Sheep Detective is tracking between $11,000,000 and $16,000,000. With family appeal and lighter competition in that space, a debut around $14,000,000 feels achievable.
As always, we’ll find out next week.
