The box office has been hot lately, but there’s even more signs of life from newcomers like Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and old flims that are still getting people into the auditoriums.
This weekend’s box office continued its gradual cooldown after the massive debut of a certain blockbuster, though the top of the chart remained stable. Holdovers once again dominated, with only one new release breaking into the upper tier.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Stays in Control

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie held first place with $35.0 million.
The drop continues as expected, but the film remains the clear leader at the box office. Its broad appeal and strong word of mouth are keeping it well ahead of the competition, even as newer releases attempt to carve out space.
Project Hail Mary Remains Steady
Project Hail Mary brought in $20.5 million.
Now deep into its run, the film continues to post strong numbers. While it has clearly ceded the top spot, its consistency remains one of the more impressive box office stories of the past several weeks.
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy Underperforms

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy debuted with $13.5 million.
Tracking suggested a $15 million to $20 million opening, but expectations were already tempered due to a lack of strong marketing. A prediction closer to $11 million reflected that concern, and the final result landed slightly above that estimate while still falling short of its projected range at the box office.
The muted promotional campaign appears to have limited its reach, preventing it from fully capitalizing on its recognizable title.
The Drama Continues Its Run
The Drama earned $4.8 million.
The film continues to hold a modest position in the top five, maintaining steady numbers without any major swings. It has quietly carved out a consistent audience over the past few weeks.
You, Me & Tuscany Fades
You, Me & Tuscany added $3.8 million.
After opening below expectations, the film continues to decline as newer releases take priority. Its run is now firmly in the late stages at the box office.
Next Weekend’s Predictions
Next weekend brings the release of Michael, which is currently tracking between $52 million and $65 million. With strong awareness and clear mainstream appeal, it is positioned to make an immediate impact.
A debut around $60 million feels like the most likely outcome. If it lands there, it should comfortably take first place and give the box office another needed boost.
As always, we’ll find out next week.
