Really, is there anything more badass than women on motorcycles? Throw in comedy powerhouses like Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham and we’re sold before we even watch it. That is precisely how the highly-anticipated action comedy Ride or Die makes us feel, and we’re sure we’re not alone. Thankfully, today we got our first looks at the show, alongside the official premiere date.
Starring and executive produced by Spencer and Waddingham, and from Paramount Television Studios, the fast-paced series will debut all eight episodes globally on July 15, exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories around the world. The series is created by Tessa Coates, who executive produces alongside showrunner Matt Miller and director Peyton Reed. The news was announced Monday during Amazon’s Upfront presentation in New York City. The series was first announced at Prime Video’s second annual Upfront presentation last year.
Ride or Die follows best friends Debbie Claybourne (Spencer) and Judith Burton (Waddingham) who thought they knew everything about each other, except Judith turns out to be an international assassin. When a mysterious figure emerges from Judith’s past and a hit goes horribly wrong, both of their worlds are turned upside down as they’re forced to go on the run together. It’s a race against time and a road trip across Europe, with law enforcement, highly trained assassins, and some very dangerous criminals at their heels.
The film also stars Bill Nighy, Ed Skrein, Sylvia Hoeks, Calam Lynch, Savannah Steyn, Jamie Parker, and Jacky Ido.
Ride or Die is produced by Paramount Television Studios, Amazon MGM Studios as well as Andy and Barbara Muschietti’s Double Dream and Octavia Spencer’s Orit Entertainment. Coates, Miller, and Reed executive produce alongside Octavia Spencer for Orit Entertainment; Hannah Waddingham; Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Irene Yeung for Double Dream; Brian Clisham; and Stephanie Kluft.
