Netflix Unleashes A Stacked Animated Slate For 2026 And Beyond – Ghostbusters, Ray Gunn & More

Netflix's animated slate for 2026 and beyond.

Post Summary

Netflix took their animated slate for 2026 and beyond to Annecy International Animation Film Festival and showed the audience exactly what to expect from the streaming giant. They had multiple presentations on not just their streaming output but even some theatrical releases and features. If you love animation of any kind, anime, CG, kids to adult, there’s a bit of everything for anyone here.

Ghostbusters: Night Shift was one of the things I was waiting for the most to see and it did not disappoint. From the clips and concept art that were shown off, not only are we getting a different kind of Ghostbusters show but we’re getting one that is legit scary. Some of the ghost designs were legitimately frightening. While it doesn’t have a firm release date right now, the series should stream on Netflix in 2027.

Logline: New York City, 1994 — Five years after the Ghostbusters took the Statue of Liberty for a walk, a new wave of supernatural terror hits the Big Apple, forcing a group of scrappy, young New Yorkers — untrained, underappreciated, and kinda sorta responsible for the problem — to put on proton packs, face their fears, and bust some ghosts.

THE ONE PIECE

Another big ticket for the Netflix Animation slate for 2026 and beyond was THE ONE PIECE. The new version of the world’s most read anime is getting a fresh coat of paint and making it easier for newcomers to jump in. They showed off a new trailer for the animation style and while I’ve never watched One Piece before, this looks like a great place to start. This releases on Netflix in February 2027.

Synopsis: Produced by WIT Studio, THE ONE PIECE is a brand new anime adaptation starting from the very beginning of the original manga’s East Blue saga. Separate from the TV anime series that has charged full speed ahead over the course of more than 25 years, this series taps into the expressive potential of modern technology to offer a familiar yet fresh take on the adventures of Luffy.

Steps Highlights The Cinderella Story On Its Head

Steps is a new take on the classic Cinderella tale, but even more so than your normal “oh the stepsisters aren’t actually evil” take. It features Cinderella and her stepsisters going on a journey to save their sister from being turned into a frog and the tyrannical rule of Priscilla. The scene we were shown was a chase by an evil henchmen who runs kind of like the T-1000 from Terminator 2. Overall, this one looks like a lot of fun and releases on November 20th, 2026.

Synopsis: Think you know Cinderella’s “evil” stepsisters? Think again. Sick of living in Cinderella’s shadow, Lilith (Ali Wong) steals the Fairy Godmother (Bette Midler)’s magic wand and hijacks the Royal Ball with her sister Margot (Stephanie Hsu), breaking the Cinderella story as we know it and dooming the kingdom to the tyrannical rule of Priscilla (Nikki Glaser), a villainous schemer who swoops in and snatches the throne. Now, Lilith must team up with Cinderella (Amanda Seyfried) to fight biker trolls, outrun evil henchmen, and escape the Screaming Woods on an epic quest to save the kingdom, but most importantly, their relationship.

Coming from Brad Bird, Ray Gunn is a project that was a long time coming. The film tells the story of a private eye who’s drawn into a case involving one of the biggest stars in the world named Venus Nova. The scene they showed us from the film highlighted the animation style and the world of Ray Gunn. This one releases on December 18th, 2026 and stars Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson, and Tom Waits.

Logline: In Metropia, a gigantic city in an alternate future as seen from 1939, private eye Raymond Gunn is drawn into a case involving aliens, murder and a multimedia star named Venus Nova.

We already talked about Alley Cats earlier this week, but they released a new image from the show from their Annecy panel. Its a sitcom from Ricky Gervais about the lives of several feral British cats featuring an all-star voice cast. You can watch the first trailer here. Alley Cats releases on Netflix on August 7th, 2026.

Synopsis: Alley Cats is a sitcom created by and starring the multi-award-winning Ricky Gervais. The adult animation follows the trials and tribulations of a group of feral British cats from all walks of society, who seek companionship while ruminating on everyday life. From the funny to the absurd, the series is packed with Gervais’ signature style of heart and social commentary that audiences have come to expect.

The Ribbon Hero

The Ribbon Hero is from director Yuki Igarashi and features a stunning animation style. The story is inspired by ‘Princess Knight” by Osamu Tezuka and is the story of a lone hero who chooses to defy their destiny. It releases on Netflix on August 8th, 2026.

LOGLINE: Yuki Igarashi, regarded as one of the industry’s most versatile animators, directs the film. He first drew wide attention for the sophisticated animation he handled alone as key animator on the ending sequence of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1. His directorial debut, Star Wars: Visions – Lop & Ochō, received high praise in Japan and abroad for its delicate storytelling and dynamic action scenes. THE RIBBON HERO marks Igarashi’s first time directing a feature-length film.

Bringing together a team of highly skilled creators, the film depicts the story of a lone hero who chooses to defy a harsh destiny, set in a delicately crafted world and brought to life through polished action.

Overall, Netflix had a fantastic presentation that showed off their commitment to animation across the board. Whether thats adult, kids, anime, or any other type of animation, Netflix has their finger on the pulse.
