Secrets are hard to hold onto in this business of show. We’re in an era where “trailers show you the whole movie” is a complaint audiences still repeat, and for good reason. So when something like the Digger teaser trailer masterfully avoids showing us a clear view of Tom Cruise’s titular character, it brings a smile to my face.
That mystery appears to be ending soon, thanks to director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s collaboration with the screen icon now having a trailer release date. After the latest sneaky peek at this enigmatic presence, I need to tip my cowboy hat to the game that’s currently underway.
Digger’s Trailer Release Date Makes A Ton Of Sense
Can you remember the last time a trailer for a movie that isn’t based on an IP had a trailer date announcement? I’m struggling to recall such a time myself; but Warner Bros. is bringing that sort of thing back! Thanks to not one, but three very clever posters, we now know that Digger’s new trailer will debut on July 13th.
That doesn’t feel like a coincidence either, as this new look is a shoo-in to set sail with The Odyssey. Each piece of art stops just shy of showing Tom Cruise’s latest prosthetic-enhanced big talker; my personal favorite being this multicolored gem:

From square one, the posters for Digger have been digging into a retro sort of cool that belongs in another time. It’s like finding a Paul Newman vehicle in the 1970s in the Warner Bros vault; sitting right next to a print of Ken Russell’s The Devils. But also, this is a Tom Cruise movie that’s selling itself on not showing the man himself at all times in the marketing!
That makes the eventual face reveal of Cruise’s “most powerful man” on the brink of armageddon something worth talking about. It’s a bold move in a time when any script making the circuit practically has the floating heads of potential “marketable leads” on the cover.
As if that wasn’t enough of a tease, the WB marketing wizards found a way to outdo themselves once more. Prepare to pause, zoom, and enhance as there actually are some early Digger scenes you can feast your eyes on – and with the studio’s total approval!

A Recent Tom Cruise Tribute Reel Is Also A Stealth Digger Trailer
The lucky attendees of Warner Bros.’ 2026 CinemaCon panel already know what awaits the world come July 13th. In addition, reports of the “Tom Cruise Retrospective Trailer” came this past May, which saw a montage of his most memorable roles sent out with Paramount’s Top Gun double feature event.
Clearly the WB brass are pretty confident this currently anonymous cowboy will be among them, as Digger features prominently in the final portion of this cinematic collage. Warner Bros. now has that video available for your viewing pleasure, which means we definitely need to take a beat and enjoy the vague madness:
With the evidence on hand, my rough estimate is that Mr. Cruise’s central figure is an oil man that may have dug a bit too close to the core, and now has to undo his actions to save humanity. That sounds like a reverse Armageddon, when you think about it; but even then, I have no clue if I’m even the slightest bit right.
That’s something we’ll have to wait for, as Digger will hit us all with its next hard truth in its July 13th trailer. So feel free to keep digging with THS Movie News, as we keep searching for clues in the months to come.
