Netflix Animation is at Annecy International Film Festival this week and they’re showing off a new slate of animated series for the rest of 2026 and into 2027! First off from the week is a trailer for the upcoming animated series Alley Cats. The series comes from Creator, Writer, and Director Ricky Gervais. Before you see the trailer, here’s a quote from him about it and the series.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited about a trailer. I can’t wait for everyone to get to know these cats.”
The show is co-directed by Elliot Dear and executive-produced by Ricky Gervais of Derek Productions, Steven Hamilton Shaw (Gnomeo & Juliet) of Shush Creative. James Stevenson Bretton and Ben Lole for Blink Industries.
The cast includes Ricky Gervais, Tom Basden, Andrew Brooke, David Earl, Kerry Godliman, Jo Hartley, Diane Morgan, and also featuring Natalie Cassidy and Tony Way. There are six episodes in the first season that come in at fifteen minutes each. Check out the trailer for Alley Cats below!
If you need a synopsis, here’s what Alley Cats is about.
Alley Cats is an adult animated sitcom created by and starring the multi award-winning Ricky Gervais. The series follows the trials and tribulations of a group of feral British cats from all walks of society, who seek companionship while ruminating on everyday life. From the funny to the absurd, the series is packed with Gervais’ signature style of heart and social commentary that audiences have come to expect.
The THS Take – Alley Cats Is A Who’s Who For Comedy

After seeing the trailer for Alley Cats and a bit of footage at Netflix’s Annecy event, I’m in on the show. Ricky Gervais had a hilarious message for critics at the event, talking about how he didn’t want to even make a video for them. If you’re into his style or brand of humor, the show looks to translate that to animated cats.
The rest of the cast includes heavy hitters of comedy like Tom Basden and David Earl. The only thing that I could say would be a shame is that the show is only 6 episodes. At fifteen minutes a pop, there’s enough time for one story, but it might feel like we’re left wanting more.
Overall, Alley Cats and the new trailer make me pretty excited for the show to release on Netflix on August 7th, 2026.
