The Popular Three-quel is Back and Bigger
The baggage might be generational, but at least it’s in Italy! Sixteen entire years after the Bahamas trip that absolutely gagged us, Tyler Perry is officially giving the fans what they’ve been begging for. “Why Did I Get Married Again?,” the third installment in the iconic dramedy franchise, is officially coming globally on Netflix on September 9.
Drama Goes Generational
So, what brings everybody back together after all these years? We’re headed to Italy for a celebration! Marcus (Michael Jai White) and Angela (Tasha Smith) are preparing to watch their daughter, Jasmine (Armani Greer), tie the knot. Her fiancé is Wesley (Everett Osborne), a star football phenom who just happens to be the son of Roselyn, a wildly successful businesswoman and an old friend of the group we haven’t met before.
Playing Roselyn is none other than Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson, stomping into the franchise in stilettos in a role that already promises iconic one-liners and sickening outfits.

Obviously, it wouldn’t be a “Why Did I Get Married” movie without a little bit of messiness.
Secrets Unveiled, Punches Not Held
The newly released trailer feels like going home again. Our core group grows with the addition of the next generation and “new” old friends joining. Of course, there’s drama, but there’s that familiar and hilarious in-group roasting that brings necessary balance to the mess.
Beyond the laughs and unexpected hits, the trailer hits a sweet spot that feels super relatable. When Terry (Tyler Perry) and Dianne’s (Sharon Leal) daughter, Kenya (Laya DeLeon Hayes), looks at the group and admits she always thought their marriages were “so perfect,” Sheila hits her with a reality check. There lies the overall theme of legacy and how holding things inside can be passed down from generation to generation.
