Alamo Drafthouse Celebrates Breaking Bad Day With Interactive Fan Event

Breaking Bad fans are getting a pretty damn good reason to celebrate Walter White’s birthday this year. Alamo Drafthouse is teaming up with Sony Pictures Television for a one night only Breaking Bad Day Fan Event on September 7, bringing one of the show’s most iconic episodes to the big screen.

The event will feature an interactive screening of the Season 4 finale, Face Off, across 15 markets nationwide. Fans can watch the explosive episode with a live host, themed props, audience participation, and a few surprises inspired by the world of Heisenberg.

Breaking Bad Comes to the Big Screen

September 7 holds a special place in Breaking Bad history. The date marks Walter White’s birthday and the beginning of his journey in the series. On that fateful day, the mild mannered chemistry teacher learns that he has terminal lung cancer. He then spots Jesse Pinkman during a ride along with his DEA agent brother in law, Hank Schrader.

That moment sets Walter on a path that transforms him from a high school teacher into the drug kingpin known as Heisenberg. Eighteen years after the series first began that journey, Alamo Drafthouse wants fans to celebrate it together on the big screen.

“Every year, Breaking Bad fans celebrate September 7 as the day Walter White’s journey began,” said Chaya Rosenthal, Chief Marketing Officer at Alamo Drafthouse. “This year, we’re inviting everyone to celebrate one of television’s all time greatest episodes on the big screen with a live host, fun props, and pizza delivered right to your seat.”

Get Ready to Ring Hector’s Bell

Face Off

This isn’t simply a standard television screening. Alamo Drafthouse plans to turn Face Off into an interactive fan experience.

A live host will guide audiences through the screening while dressed in a yellow hazmat suit. Fans can also ring their own Hector Salamanca bell whenever the cartel patriarch uses his signature bell on screen.

Guests will also receive several Breaking Bad themed keepsakes. The event includes a Heisenberg hat, blue rock candy, a call bell, and a Gus Fring half face mask. Fans can also dress up for a costume contest, with a special prize going to the winner.

And yes, pizza will be delivered directly to guests’ seats. Alamo Drafthouse even included a warning for fans: just don’t throw it on the roof.

Why Face Off?

It’s difficult to imagine a better Breaking Bad episode for this type of event. Originally released in 2011, Face Off closes the show’s fourth season with an unforgettable confrontation between Walter White and Gus Fring.

Series creator Vince Gilligan wrote and directed the episode, which earned widespread acclaim for its suspense, visual storytelling, and massive payoff. The episode remains one of the defining moments of the entire series.

Breaking Bad went on to win 16 Emmy Awards during its five season run, including consecutive Outstanding Drama Series victories in 2013 and 2014. The series remains one of television’s most celebrated dramas and continues to attract new fans years after its finale.
