H.E.R. Brings Us B.R.B.
Forgotten Island is getting ready to hit the big screen and we’ve got a new single from H. E. R. “BRB” sees the Grammy-winning songwriter take us back to the 90s. The new song is just as friendship-focused as Forgotten Island is. H.E.R. does an amazing job in the film as Jo, and hearing her sing about the road to adulthood is both comforting and nostalgic. Forgotten Island Gets A Lead Single
H.E.R. and Liza Soberano team-up for “BRB” and we’re going to need a minute. Forgotten Island hits theaters in just a few weeks. And, the new single from the Dreamworks Animation film does an amazing job of capturing the friendship at the heart of this movie. Jo and Raisa feel like two girls that you went to high school with.
The video for “BRB” focueses on our lead actress tandem. H.E.R. performs the record, and Ryan Tedder lended a hand with production. The 90s vibe of Forgotten Island comes all the way through on this new song. Check it out for yourself up top. And, hear more about the movie right here.
Bringing This Friendship To Life
“I’m so grateful that Januel Mercado and Joel Crawford, the directors of Forgotten Island, not only gave me the opportunity to play Jo. But, trusted me to create the song that represents the friendship between Jo and Raissa, which is the heart of the movie,” H.E.R. explained. “I knew I wanted the song to be a conversation between the two of them. And, getting to share that moment with my co-star, Liza Soberano, on this duet has been a dream! It was so fun creating a song that reflects the sound of the ‘90s, and I’m beyond proud that this track is representation of Filipino culture, just like the film!”
Soberano says, “Getting to make ‘BRB’ with H.E.R. and Ryan Tedder was such a surreal moment for me.I’ve admired H.E.R. for years, not only for the amazing artist and musician she is, but for the way she always remembers to carry her Filipino heritage with so much pride. I think it’s so special and meaningful to see two Filipinas coming together through music and culture, especially at this point in my own journey as an artist.”
She continues, “I’m so grateful she trusted me enough to share this song with her. And, I hope people can feel the genuine connection between us when they hear it!”
What’s Forgotten Island About?
Academy and Grammy Award® winning supernova H.E.R. and Liza Soberano (Lisa Frankenstein, Alone/Together) star as high school graduates Jo and Raissa, who have been best friends since grade school but are now about to embark on separate life paths.
While celebrating their last night together, Jo and Raissa stumble upon a mysterious portal that transports them to the fantastical island of Nakali, packed with magical and mythological creatures they grew up hearing stories about from their Filipino families.
Some of these figures will become friends, some foes. Joined by well-meaning-but- hapless weredog Raww (Dave Franco) and a small-but-mighty pack of pals, Jo and Raissa must face The Dreaded Manananggal (Tony winning icon Lea Salonga), the most feared creature on the island. When they discover that the memories of their entire friendship are the price for returning home, Jo and Raissa will race to find a way to leave the island before they forget each other forever.
