Marvel is going in on their casting for X-Men with a new cast member joining Sadie Sink (Jean Grey), Kit Connor (Cyclops), Christopher Abbott (Prof. X), Samara Weaving (Emma Frost), Inde Navarrette (Rogue) and Maya Boyd (Storm). THR is reporting that Asa Germann has joined the cast as Angel. He’ll also be joined by Adam Driver as Mister Sinster.
Germann was originally up for the role of Cyclops but Kit Connor nabbed that role, but that didn’t stop Marvel from bringing Germann back for the role of Angel. They were impressed enough with his audition that they offered him the part of Warren Worthington III, or Angel.
Angel was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the very first issue of X-Men all the way back in 1963. He’s got feathered wings on his back and has the ability to fly. He was a key part of the Age of Apocalypse storyline that X-Men ’97 went over in their most recent season. In that storyline, he was turned into living metal by Apocalypse and became one of his Four Horsemen.
Ben Foster and Ben Hardy have both previously played the character in X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Apocalypse respectively.
Jake Schreier is directing the film after his work on Thunderbolts* impressed Marvel. X-Men releases in theaters on May 5th, 2028.
Who Is Asa Germann?
Asa Germann is known to audiences who’ve watched Gen V, the spinoff of The Boys on Prime Video. He played Samuel Riordan in that series, which centered on superpowered young adults attending a crimefighting university. That role surely had a play in how Marvel saw him as it does sound a bit like what the X-Men are. He also appeared in Scream 7 earlier this year as Lucas Bowden, who gets killed in one of the more brutal ways in that film.
The rest of the cast for the X-Men is shaping up nicely with big approval from Marvel fans after their appearance at D23. We’re still getting casting news for some of the other characters like Beast and Magneto, but Angel is a key part of the team that’s finally been cast now.
