Must be the season of the witch
Practical Magic inspired an entire generation of “witchy” girls. Or maybe that I, as a Scorpio, just found a movie that felt like how it feels to be me most of the year. It has become a holiday staple and one of those “fall” movies that we all just love to revisit. Now, as the sequel hits theaters, many of us are learning a lot more about the Owens sisters.
Sally (Sandra Bullock) and her sister Gillian (Nicole Kidman) are back to once again attempt to break the family curse. Which means getting to see glimpses of Hannah Owens. Played by Cassie Bradley, the curse began with Hannah’s daughter Maria and the rest is Practical Magic history. But talking with Bradley, it is clear that having people who love the original film a part of the sequel was the right move.

As a self appointed “witchy” girl myself, movies like Practical Magic helped to give me something to cling to. When talking with Bradley about the film, we got into the Scorpio feel of wanting to connect with all things “witchy” because of the time of year when our birthdays are. I told Bradley I myself was a Scorprio and she shared she was too and it led to us talking about her connection to the original film prior to booking her role in the sequel.
“I’m also a Scorpio and also obsessed with all things witchiness,” Bradley said. “I just remember it as such an iconic film from my childhood. And I think its one of those films that you can sit down with your family and watch, you can watch with your friends, and it’s really got so many different kind of strands and themes but yeah, I was a huge fan. So when the NDA came through for the self tape and my agent said its was for what we believe to be Practical Magic 2, I was like ‘Oh my goodness, I love it.'”
