’24 Jump Street’ Gets Winter 2027 Release Date

The wait is almost over. Sony recently announced “24 Jump Street” finally has a release date: Dec. 10, 2027, according to Variety.

Back to ‘Jump Street’

The deeply ridiculous and satirical buddy cop franchise hasn’t graced the big screen since 2014’s “22 Jump Street.” The film reboot of the original television show has seen incredible critical and commercial success since “21 Jump Street” released in 2012. Both films were received well and killed it at the box office, so it’s never made sense as to why its taken so long for a third movie to come out. Apparently, the creative team will be making a joke out of how long it took, skipping the number 23 and going straight to 24. This is a cheeky nod to the 22 Jump Street” end credits that teased numerous sequels ranging from the guys going to medical school, being foreign exchange students, art school, and so many other scenarios.

Stars Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Ice Cube are all supposed to be returning, with Rodney Rothman (“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”) directing the third installment, taking the reins from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. He also co-wrote the script with Hill and Meghan Malloy, where the film will lean into the long gap between films. Will they also mention the ill-fated “MiB 23?” Tatum, Neal H. Moritz and Reid Carolin are also producing for Free Association, with Hill and Matt Dines with Strong Baby Productions.

Millennials Yearn for 2010s Humor

“Jump Street” is a genuinely (and surprisingly) funny take on the more earnest police procedural its predecessor was. Hill and Tatum have unmatched chemistry that is so specifically 2010s-coded, it’ll be a nostalgic bit of joy to see it revived at the end of the 2020s. We don’t know much yet about the plot of the third film, but expect it to be filled with very meta, in-universe, fourth wall-breaking jokes that hopefully don’t feel dated. Franchises that were long thought dead are making comebacks lately, successfully or otherwise. 2027 isn’t that far of a wait to see if audiences still have a taste for this series.
