The bygone eras are fighting.
An ‘Incursion’ of the Uncanny Kind
Marvel just revealed new covers for their epic crossover event, “X-Men ’92: Incursions #1” and they tickle that nostalgic part of the brain. In November, across five universe-shaking one-shots, X-Fans will get to witness universes collide including the legendary X-Men from the iconic ’90s animated series go head-to-head with the teenage mutants from the beloved 2000s series “X-Men: Evolution.” It’s a much talked about, heavily debated topic that’s spanned decades that finally gets answered.
This dream crossover arrives in January with “X-Men ’92: Incursions #1,” part of the coming one-shots. These stories dive into the thrilling battles of ‘Time Runs Out,’ the massive prelude to Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić’s “Secret Wars.” Every issue sees two Marvel realities collide in a dramatic clash where only one universe can survive. (It reminds me a little of DC’s Convergence event, actually.)
An X-Ceptional Dream Team
Making this collision even more satisfying is the talent behind the book. The issue is written by Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle, the acclaimed duo who worked together on several episodes of “X-Men: Evolution” (they actually created fan-favorite X-23 for the show) and later ran the fan-favorite X-Force comic run. Joining them on interior art is Salva Espin, fresh off drawing the official prelude comic for “X-Men ’97.”
Yost mentioned that this marked their first comic collaboration together in 15 years.
“Returning to the Evo kids a quarter century later to tell the biggest story of their lives, in the pages of Marvel Comics, is a dream and an honor. We owe four generations of die-hard X-Men animation fans a story worth the wait. With Salva Espin drawing it, we’re going to stick the landing,” he continued.
Eye-Catching Artwork That Matches the Energy
The core dilemma pits two eras and philosophies against each other: seasoned ’90s X-Men must save their world, but doing so means destroying another, one filled with younger, hopeful versions of themselves who still believe in Professor X’s idealistic dream.
To build up the hype, Marvel revealed brand-new variant covers for the debut issue, featuring artwork by “X-Men: Evolution” character designer and director Steve E. Gordon and Marvel’s Stormbreakers artist Gurihiru, along with Luciano Vecchio’s covers.

“X-Men ’92: Incursions #1” hits comic book stores and digitally in January.
