Fans of the Dinkins family feud with the Basmati clan, get ready for some tasty drama in season two.
Learning From the Greats
We got a chance to chat with Jalyn Hall, who plays Carmelo on “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins,” son of former disgraced football player Reggie Dinkins (Tracy Morgan), about his character’s journey in season two. We chatted about the difference in getting a traditional education and the type of on-set education he gets working with acting and comedic legends.
Hall said working on set is a lot more unpredictable than going to school every day. “Coming onto set…you do not know what lesson you’re going to learn that day,” he said. Considering he works alongside genuinely funny and talented people like Morgan, Erika Alexander (ex-wife and agent Monica Reese-Dinkins), Bobby Moynihan (who plays friend Rusty Boyd), and Daniel Radcliffe (filmmaker Arthur Tobin), those lessons are probably full of humor. He mentions how the entire cast “pours into” him, whether its acting-related or just life in general.
Carmelo’s Secret Romance
At the end of season one, it was revealed that Carmelo is secretly dating the daughter of his dad’s archnemesis, Jerry Basmati (Craig Robinson), causing him to sneak around and lie to his parents. This is a fun set-up for Hall’s storyline this season and gives him more to do outside of his father and his family’s dynamics.
Hall mentions that the audience will get the opportunity to see how the two young lovebirds got together and how that eventual reveal will impact their respective families. Basmati and Dinkins were at each other’s throats for most of season one, as the former tried to sabotage and undermine the latter’s efforts to get back in the public’s good graces. Their kids dating will add another wrinkle to their beef.
It won’t just be Carmelo’s dad that’s affected by the secret, apparently the whole household, including Brina (Precious Way) and Rusty, will have some opinions when everything comes out. Excitingly, this continues the hilariously bitter feud between the two families and pushes the story into an even more interesting territory.
“The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins,” returns for season two on Nov. 2, 2026 and with our favorite unlikely duo, “both still chasing redemption and making a mess of it. With the help of his family, Reggie will continue his quest to recapture his past glory.”
