‘Darkwing Duck’ Returns To Disney+ With New Series Starring Mark Hamill & Seth Rogen

Darkwing Duck is getting a reboot for Disney+. The Disney Television Animation account on Twitter confirmed the news.

This news comes nearly six years after the reboot was confirmed to be in the works for Disney+. The voice cast for the new series includes:

• Mark Hamill – Darkwing Duck
• Seth Rogen – Launchpad McQuack
• Lizzy Caplan – Gosalyn Mallard
• Lilimar – Duckie
• Dan Stevens – Glade McTowers
• Tiffany Shepis – Rosa
• Kathryn Newton – Firecracker
• Teo Briones – Timb
• Tyler Dean Flores – Pondsy
• Katie Rich – Officer Shanks
• Nat Faxon – Officer Webb

The official logline for the series goes like this:

“For the last 35 years, Darkwing Duck has been trapped in his worst nightmare: an alternate world that’s never heard of his superhero exploits. Now a rebellious teen named Duckie who knows all about his heroic past shows up to pull this ego-fueled vigilante back into battle. Together, this unlikely duo will get dangerous to fight old enemies like Negaduck and Megavolt and reunite with allies Launchpad, Gosalyn and Morgana to save the entire universe.”

Sean Tretta and Borja Peña Gorostegui are writing the series and executive producing alongside Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Alex McAtee, and Gabby Grantham producing via Point Grey Pictures. Tad Stones is the creator of the original series and he was consulted on the development of the new series.

What Is Darkwing Duck?

The original series of Darkwing Duck ran from 1991-1992 for three seasons and 91 episodes. It debuted on the Disney Channel and then ran on ABC in syndication. Jim Cummings, Christine Cavanaugh, and Terry McGovern voiced the original series.

It has connections to the series DuckTales with Launchpad McQuack. He appeared in both the original series and the new revival of that show. Darkwing and Gosalyn also appeared in the new reboot as a fictional character from an old superhero TV show.

For fans of the original series, this is a bit bittersweet. They’re getting a new series with a beloved character, but they’re not getting the original voice actors for that series. Mark Hamill is a pro and one of the best voice actors ever, so there’s a bit of solace there.
