Six Flags Fright Fest kicked off the festivities on Sunday at Midsummer Scream 2026 with a panel showcasing the next phase of their new era. Last year, they started a new era for the company and the event with a new icon, and that looks to continue with the 2026 event. They have more shows, more scares, and some updates for old favorites. Let’s jump in.
Starting Off With Something For The Family
So, while the frights go on during the night, the kids and families at Six Flags Magic Mountain can enjoy Tricks and Treats. The improved event has more for families to do, including a new Bugs Bunny show and candy to trick or treat for. They’re expanding the event even more than previous years with more to do and will have further details as we get closer to Halloween season.
Now the fun for the whole family stopped there with the actual meat of the panel kicking off for Fright Fest 2026. It was a bit of a downer for longtime fans as we got all the mazes that would not be returning for Fright Fest 2026.
The full list of mazes and scare zones leaving Fright Fest 2026 are: Condamned, Saw: Legacy of Terror, Truth or Dare?, Grimmoire Ridge, and Carnivhell. Some are being replaced outright and some are not. Its always sad to see some of their original mazes leaving, the first version of Truth or Dare was quite fun, but lost its luster a bit after changes had to be made about the length of the maze. Condamned has been an institution at Fright Fest and its sister event Scream Break, so that one is also sad to see leaving.
Saw: Legacy of Terror had some nice moments but its was not anything too special to write home about, so that one being replaced by Trick ‘R Treat is no real issue for me.
The Returning Favorites And Newcomers To Fright Fest 2026
Like I said before, Trick ‘r Treat is getting a bit of a revamp and moving to from its previous location to where Saw: Legacy of Terror was. That is a welcome change because it was quite difficult to actually find where the maze was located before. Willoughby’s Resurrected is making another comeback after being on the chopping block at last year’s event. That’s a welcome change to me, because that’s always the most fun original maze to go through at the event. Even if there aren’t as many scare actors, the decor and theming drives the whole thing.
Joining them are Vault 666: Unlocked and last year’s new maze, Carnage. Carnage was a big part of last year’s event with the theming and the icon character, and they made sure to say that all of these mazes are getting a bit of a revamp and changes. Not to be forgotten, the scare zones are also back for 2026 with City Under Siege, Plaza De La Muerte, Devil’s Triangle, Exile Hill, Thunderbolt Alley, Underworlds of Oz, and Nightmares: Reign of Blood all making a return.
They do have an update to the opening scare-a-mony as well. Unleashed is a new scare zone that’s taking over the entrance gate of the park and the waterfall area. Kurvatu is a portal master of evil who will be opening the park for guests. You can check him out below.
The New Shows And Main Event Mazes For Fright Fest 2026
For 2026, Fright Fest is doubling down on shows for guests to enjoy, including a new version of their slider show with Sliders of the Night: Dreams of the Damned. They’re also doing their biggest ever show in the Full Throttle area with Nytewalkers. Finally, they’re bringing back Margo Rita’s Monster Ball with some updates and a new location in the park.
As for the IP-based main events of Fright Fest, The Conjuring Universe is always a highlight for guests. The maze is returning this year with some Conjuring-based updates and new characters from the long-running horror series. The biggest announcement though, was that they’re doing a maze based on the Final Destination films. The new maze, Final Destination: Death’s Playground is coming to Fright Fest 2026. This is the first time that a theme park will have a maze based on these movies. They teased the use of a wood chipper for guests and ghouls to go through.
Finally, they brought up Gus Krueger from Knott’s Scary Farm, who is doing a guest spot on a new maze that he designed at Fright Fest. Wolves Blood is the newest original maze coming to Fright Fest in the spot that Truth or Dare used to be in. The new maze tells the story of Daylight’s End, a small town that is overrun with werewolves. A new band called Wolves Blood wants people to come to their release party, but the party ends with lots of blood and a big mess.
