Our Take on The Shrek Teaser
Shrek Fives new teaser feels like getting the gang all together for one big adventure. There is a certain magic about hearing Murphy and Myers bounce back and forth as Shrek and Donkey. The little bit we get from Diaz here is also very funny. That scene with the trio and the kids going to “Further Further Away” is a great sign for the rest of the movie.
At this point, Shrek is more of its own thing than riffing on or making fun of Disney projects. Although there’s one killer joke in this teaser that shows we’re not done with that corner yet.
Dreamworks Animation and Universal have entered into a new cycle of franchise filmmaking. Shrek 5 comes into a world where How to Train Your Dragon and Wicked have done great work at the box office in recent years. But, despite the Internet’s yammering on, nostalgia still really sells at the box office.
If this new entry in the Shrek franchise is anything like its forebearers, audiences are in for a treat. By marrying some of those classic performances with a little bit of updated presentation around the grumpy ogre. And, his way-too joyful donkey, We could be setting up for one of these surprises of next year.
