Supergirl Ticket Sales Are Apparently Crashing AMC’s Ticketing App, And I Think More Trouble Is Coming

A determined Milly Alcock soars through the air in Supergirl.

Brace yourself folks, as the hype levels for 2026 summer blockbuster season are about to rise even higher. As we’ve been keenly watching Supergirl’s marketing campaign ramp up to its late June release date, people are now able to secure their seats to see our favorite Kryptonian cousin wreck shop.

Should anyone be skeptical of not only the excitement for Milly Alcock’s solo DC debut, but also the health of the theatrical experience, fear not. For you see, it looks like this very day is going to be a busy one for theatre chain I.T. departments all over – as two films will now compete for bandwidth.

Supergirl Hype Has Fans Supposedly Waiting To Snag Tickets

Warner Bros. and DC made the announcement yesterday that tickets to Supergirl opening weekend showings are now ready for eager comic fans to secure. What’s more, there’s an early access event in IMAX set to open on June 24th – two days before its general release. And earlier today, various fans on social media were lamenting how AMC Theatres ticketing app.

There are probably two good reasons for why this is happening, and the first is that James Gunn’s Superman properly set the table – courtesy of the House of the Dragon cast member’s memorable appearance. People are ready to mix it up with the Kryptonians again, especially when Kara Zor-El will be adventuring (and partying) onto IMAX screens later this month.

Director Craig Gillespie’s DC Comics entry is being sold as a “filmed for IMAX” experience; which of course is going to result in a bit of a rush on tickets. As luck would have it, another summer blockbuster heading into that format’s exciting waters is entering the market as we speak. Perhaps you’ve heard of…The Odyssey?

Tickets For Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Are Now On Sale

As of the time of this writing, The Odyssey’s opening weekend tickets are freshly released into the world. After last summer’s publicity stunt which saw advanced IMAX screening tickets sell out a year in advance, the rest of the viewing public now has a chance to see Homer’s epic poem come to life.

Naturally, the fact that Christopher Nolan’s latest adventure was naturally shot entirely on IMAX 70mm film, competition for those showings is going to be intense. That same energy will probably be brought to conventional 70mm showings too – such as the Westwood Theater’s three-week Odyssey residency.

Apologies to anyone who only wants to go to the movies like any normal week, only to run into this perfect storm of hype and server stress testing. But know you’re not alone in this matter, dear reader; as seen in this amusing post on Twitter that’s saying what we’re all thinking:

If you’re an IMAX fan, you’re certainly eating well this year. That is, if you can beat the rush on tickets for either Supergirl or The Odyssey. With premium showings now acting as a hot commodity for these already hype worthy pictures, we could be seeing even more impressive attendance numbers in large format alone. On the plus side, at least this will be good practice for the ticketing scrum resulting from Avengers: Doomsday vs. Dune: Part Three box office war

Happy hunting if you’re braving the digital wilds to grab a seat, and don’t forget that Supergirl debuts in theaters all over on June 26th. Meanwhile, The Odyssey arrives in your nearest IMAX port of call, as well as all other theatrical formats, on July 17th. Last, but not least, for all of the latest and greatest in pop culture, be sure to have a browser tab tuned to THS’ Movie News archive; and let us know if you actually got your tickets to either of these films in the Comments below!
