Weekend Box Office: Michael Reclaims #1 From Prada 2

This weekend’s box office saw the top spot change hands once again, as the Prince of Pop reclaimed first place while a new thriller entered the chart with a strong debut. Overall totals remained solid, though the marketplace continues to spread audiences across several competing releases rather than one dominant blockbuster.

Michael Returns to Number One

Michael climbed back into first place with $26.1 million.

Even after several weeks in theaters and increased competition, the film continues to demonstrate impressive staying power. Few releases this year have maintained momentum as effectively, and reclaiming the top spot this late into its run only reinforces how strong audience interest remains.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 Slips to Second

The Devil Wears Prada 2

The Devil Wears Prada 2 earned $18.0 million.

After leading the box office the previous weekend, the sequel experienced a more noticeable decline and fell into second place. Even so, the film continues to perform strongly overall and remains one of the season’s bigger commercial successes.

Obsession Opens Strong

Obsession debuted with $16.1 million.

The thriller entered the marketplace with a solid opening, immediately carving out space among several established holdovers. In a crowded field, that is a respectable result and suggests audiences were looking for something outside the larger franchise-driven releases.

Mortal Kombat II Drops Sharply

Mortal Kombat II brought in $13.4 million.

After a strong debut last weekend, the sequel saw a steeper decline than some may have expected. While the franchise still has a loyal audience, the rapid drop suggests interest may have been more front-loaded than initially anticipated.

The Sheep Detectives Keeps Going

The Sheep Detectives added $9.3 million.

The family comedy continues to quietly perform well, holding onto a top-five spot despite increasing competition. Its consistency has turned it into one of the more dependable mid-level performers currently in theaters.

Next Weekend’s Predictions

The Mandalorian and Grogu

Next weekend brings the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is currently tracking between $81 million and $96 million. Given the strength of the Star Wars brand, the popularity of the Disney+ series, and the strong awareness surrounding the characters, the film is positioned for a major debut.

A launch around $92 million feels like the most likely outcome. If it lands near that number, it should comfortably take first place and instantly become one of the year’s biggest openings.

As always, we’ll find out next week.
