Disney’s ‘Mickey’s Home Alone’ Announced For Holiday 2026

Mickey’s Home Alone is an upcoming Disney animated TV special that should look awfully familiar to fans of a certain 1990 Christmas comedy film from director Chris Columbus. If you immediately thought “Home Alone“, then good job; you’re a child of the 1990s. Indeed, Home Alone was one of the most iconic movies of the 90s, with many readers from that era remembering all those commercials of Kevin McCallister screaming his head off. It’s a scene that’s immortalized in the posters about the movie, and it’s one that Disney remembers very well. Which is apparently why we’re getting this special this Christmas in 2026.

Disney is proud to announce their upcoming animated TV special Mickey’s Home Alone, incoming sometime in the 2026 holiday season. This particular TV special will make its debut on both Disney Jr. and on Disney+, with Shane Prigmore as director and Tom Rogers and Rachel Ruderman as co-executive producers. It will even feature the original songs  “Ho-Ho-Home for Christmas” and “Favorite Christmas Feeling” by songwriter Keith Harrison Dworkin, along with a new arrangement of the iconic holiday classic “Jingle Bells,” with a score by Tony Morales.

As for what Mickey’s Home Alone is all about? Well, the title is pretty self-evident. However, you can read the synopsis below for a better idea of the story, as well as a still image from the upcoming special as a treat:

Well, they’re not quite alone though, so…

In “Mickey’s Home Alone,” Mickey can’t wait to spend Christmas at home. His plans take a turn when Minnie surprises him and the gang with tickets to spend Christmas at a world-famous Ice Palace. In the morning rush to make it out the door, Mickey and Pluto are left behind and home alone. While Mickey and Pluto must protect their home from two feisty villains, a raccoon and a weasel who are after their Christmas dinner, Minnie and the gang desperately try to make their way back home to Mickey.

Is Mickey’s Home Alone a Parody of Home Alone…Or a Clone?

To be honest, Mickey’s Home Alone is a bit of Schrödinger’s show here. This could be a brilliant parody of Home Alone, making fun of every aspect of that 1990 Christmas comedy movie. And believe me, there’s plenty of tropes and other things that you could make fun of in Home Alone. In fact, it’s because Home Alone is such a trope-y movie that it’s the perfect source for a good parody.

On the flip side though, it could just as easily be that Mickey’s Home Alone is just a lazy clone of Home Alone, just starring Mickey Mouse and Pluto rather than Kevin. This option is just as likely because it’s the quickest and cheapest way for Disney to make a quick buck for this Christmas. The fact that the synopsis is basically a carbon copy of the plot beats of Home Alone, nearly word for word, is what’s making this the likely option. Honestly, I would be intensely disappointed if this is the case. A chance for a good parody wasted because of corporate greed? It really would be a tragedy here.

Alas, we will only find out which option for Mickey’s Home Alone is the case when Christmas 2026 rolls around later this year. Such is the tyranny of an unreleased piece of media. We can only hope that it will defy greed.

What do you all think? Are you curious to find out this Christmas if Mickey’s Home Alone is a brilliant parody or a lazy clone? Tell us your jingle bell thoughts in the comments section below.
