BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity is not that special on its surface. It’s basically a compilation film taking the first three episodes of the BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War anime adaptation and re-releasing it in theaters from June 25 to June 29, 2026. The very same anime series that’s currently streaming here in the U.S. on Disney+ and Hulu…with the distinction between them getting blurrier and blurrier by the day. Really, the only thing that this theatrical version of those first three episodes offers over just streaming it at home is the experience…and apparently, a few bonus extras. Extras which includes an interview with an “exclusive behind‑the‑scenes conversation” with mangaka/creator Tite Kubo himself, plus interviews with chief series director Tomohisa Taguchi and series director Hikaru Murata. Fortunately, now you can get tickets for that experience to see for yourself.
Fathom Entertainment and VIZ Media are proud to announce that tickets for BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity are now on sale. You can check out the ticket prices and where the anime film is screening for yourself directly from Fathom Entertainment’s official website. However, that’s not the only way you can get them. There’s also a ticket bundle exclusive to Fandango for $29.99. This bundle not only has a ticket for the movie in it, but also a piece of artwork featuring one of three different BLEACH production artwork as an extra.
Oh, and of course, Fathom and Viz Media have an official trailer for BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity for us today. You can watch that trailer either on YouTube, or just look below:
Now You Can Get Tickets for BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity, But Should You?

In my personal opinion, I do not actually think it’s worth it to watch BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity. This may be a controversial opinion, but it’s also got nothing to do with this specific anime film. It’s an opinion I have for all compilation films in general. All they are are just taking some select episodes of an anime series, and cutting and editing them to make a continuous film experience. Because of that, you inevitably lose out on some footage due to the necessary cutting, which makes you lose out on some content and context. All just to be able to watch those episodes in theaters? Honestly, that’s not an experience that’s worth it in my opinion. I would rather watch those episodes via streaming or home video releases than go to the trouble of going to theaters to watch them.
That said, Fathom and Viz Media are doing the same strategy as all other compilation film releases to get people to watch BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity in theaters. That strategy is: give the viewers bonus content to watch. Alas, that bonus content in this case is interviews with Tite Kubo and assorted lead production staff for the anime. It’s the kind of content that serious fans would rejoice over. However, most average viewers might not be interested in that kind of deep production lore. In the end, it’s pretty clear that Fathom and Viz Media are marketing this anime film purely for the most diehard of BLEACH fans, and that’s it. Whether that bonus production content is worth it to watch is up to you.
What do you all think? Are those interviews with Tite Kubo and assorted lead production staff enough for you to watch BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity in theaters? Tell us your monochrome thoughts in the comments section below.
