If you’re like me, you love Halloween Horror Nights. Even with some of the issues with crowds, wait times, and other issues, the event was still my third favorite of the Southern California Haunt season. I’ve done my wishlist in the past and that didn’t get anything really close.
I included some of my biggest wishes like It, Iron Maiden, more Universal Monsters, and A Nightmare On Elm Street making an appearance. This year’s event did have Hellraiser coming out from the depths of hell to main event the event. A haunted house like Sinners came out of nowhere in the preview phase. So what do I actually think is going to make the cut at Halloween Horror Nights 2027? Let’s find out.
The Zoomer Generation Continues To Take Over

If you’ve been to Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood or Orlando, Fortnitemares is front and center. Its the centerpiece of the opening section of the park, so what does that mean for 2027? We’re getting a full-fledged Fortnitemares house on both coasts. It only makes sense. They want younger people to come into the park for the event. So prepare for 2+ hour lines for a Fortnite haunted house at Horror Nights.
What do I think about this? I don’t really care at this point. It didn’t bother me that they had the scare zone at the event because you can walk right by it. The only thing that really bothered me was that the giant hot dog for Horror Nights was Fortnite-themed and that made the line to get it untenable on most nights.
For fans of the property? Sure, enjoy it. For me, I’m good, but it’s going to happen.
Some Combination Of Resident Evil, Obsession, Backrooms, Or All Three

Remember what I said about getting younger people into the park? Well, the last-minute addition of having Nikki roaming around the park at Horror Nights in Hollywood ended up creating some serious social media buzz. So this trio of films not only outpaced expectations at the box office, but they’re also huge favorites for younger fans. If there’s something that I’m willing to bet my life on, its that Backrooms is going to be at Horror Nights 2027. That one strikes the same chord as Five Nights At Freddy’s with the zoomer generation out there. While I didn’t care for the movie, there are some scenes here that could translate very well to a Horror Nights house.
Resident Evil was surprising that there wasn’t anything from it at the park this year, but they can make up for that next year.
All three of these do risk the “expiration date” of being in 2026 and getting overtaken by some hot new thing in 2027, but John Murdy and his crew all work on these things starting right about now. For the people who hate “new” horror properties being at Horror Nights, this might not be the year for you.
Lady Gaga Or Ghost Are The Music House In 2027

There were rumors that Lady Gaga would be the choice for the musical house at the event this year before we knew that they were doing Ozzy Osbourne. Well, how about 2027 for Gaga? Or perhaps for Ghost? Ghost continues the trend of having a house that is mega popular with a younger generation. Ghost also has a rabid fanbase that will show up to the event just for their house. I know Universal sees that and probably some of the money from merchandise too. The only thing that keeps me from guaranteeing this one is that Ghost is a bit on the satanic side, although not as much in their recent years.
Lady Gaga would be throwing a bone to the older-ish Horror Nights generation that still gets people excited. They’ve made musical houses a staple of the event since the pandemic. These two options would be the most logical from that standpoint, especially with the imagery of both artists.
I still hold out hope that they’ll do Iron Maiden, though.
What About The Old Horror Nights Heads?

We haven’t had the Universal Monsters at back-to-back events and I don’t think they return in 2027, sadly. While I love the Universal Monsters and all the houses that we get from them, some people out there don’t care for them. Would it be amazing to see the story of the Bride of Frankenstein continued? Of course. My favorite Halloween Horror Nights house ever is The Bride of Frankenstein Lives from 2021. But there are bigger fish to fry.
Now, if the event expands the number of houses that we get? That’s one of the things that I’ve pointed to that could alleviate some of the crowds and wait times, we might get a Universal Monsters one. But currently, with only 9 houses and the Terror Tram, the Monsters don’t make the cut.
The biggest thing right now for Horror Nights is whether Terrifier 4 comes out in 2027 or not. The Terrifier house in 2025 had the single-longest wait times I have ever seen at Hollywood and if we’re getting that fourth movie, we’re getting a Horror Nights house.
It’s an Art the Clown world at Horror Nights; we’re just living in it.
Outside of that, who knows what we could get for the older main event house. The rumor is that Killer Klowns From Outer Space replaced a house that was swapped out at the last minute. We can only hope that we get something cool and special that’s from an older movie for the 2027 event.
