Chatting with Mortal Kombat 2 stars Adeline Rudolph and Tati Gabrielle

Fans of the iconic princess warrior, Kitana, in Mortal Kombat are finally getting the story they have been waiting for. This is her story! During the interview with Adeline Rudolph and Tati Gabrielle, I joked that the film was “burying the lead” by not openly calling it Kitana’s story. As a longtime fan of the games, I admitted she was always my favorite character to play, even when other players underestimated her.

“I think for Kitana that quiet strength comes from, you know, it’s written in firstly, it’s in the games and the lore,” Rudolph explained. “She gets traumatized at such a young age and so I almost feel like she needs to move in darkness in order to kind of figure out how she wants to save the memory of her father, save the relationships that she has, the people that she cares about.”

Mortal Kombat 2 is now playing in theaters!

Her co-star Ana Thu Nguyen also praised Rudolph’s natural grace, saying she perfectly embodied Kitana both on and off screen.

“I always describe her to people as literally the embodiment of grace and elegance” – Tati Gabrielle

In Mortal Kombat 2, Earthrealm’s champions are once again forced into brutal conflict as the threat of Shao Kahn looms larger than ever. The sequel expands the mythology introduced in the first film, bringing fan-favorite characters like Kitana and Johnny Cage into the tournament while exploring deeper emotional stakes for the warriors fighting to protect Earthrealm. With deadly alliances forming and betrayals around every corner, the film raises the scale of the action while diving further into the personal struggles behind the iconic fighters.

The actresses also opened up about the film’s intense fight choreography. Tati Gabrielle revealed that her first major sequence was opposite Mehcad Brooks’s Jax and required balancing weapon combat with hand-to-hand fighting while filming on difficult cobblestone terrain. Nguyen’s first major fight sequence paired her with Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, and she admits keeping a straight face was sometimes harder than the choreography itself.

“He embodies Johnny Cage so perfectly,” she laughed. “It was hard for me to not laugh.”
