Matthew Lillard’s Man Of Tomorrow Casting Leaves Me With A Wild Superman Sequel Theory

Matthew Lillard sits with a half smile of concern in The Life of Chuck.

Some might say that fan favorite/all around good guy Matthew Lillard is “having a moment.” Meanwhile, others may see his recent coups in horror flicks like Scream 7 and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 as a reward for constantly putting in the work. Whatever you believe, we are now left with the usual mysteries surrounding such a casting; and in the absence of facts, I have a pretty awesome theory I’d like to share.

You probably saw this coming a mile away, as the news coming from Deadline reports that sources close to the DC sequel have not revealed the specific part in play. With actor Lars Eidinger playing Braniac, as well as the recent announcement of Adria Arjona’s casting as Maxima, we might be able to make an educated guess on Matthew Lillard’s mysterious spot on the roster.

Aaron Pierre stands solemnly in the middle of a meeting hall in Lanterns.

Aaron Pierre’s Role In Man Of Tomorrow Could Mean A Heroic Matthew Lillard Turn

More specifically, I’m willing to bet that the SLC Punk icon probably isn’t playing a villain. From where I’m sitting in the Hall of Justice, that’s too easy of a choice – and would only crowd the field of antagonists. Considering that Lanterns’ Aaron Pierre is also appearing in Man of Tomorrow, I’m willing to speculate that the once and future Shaggy might be another member of the Green Lantern Corps!

What do I have to base this theory on? Sheer wishful thinking! Seeing as the next act of David Corenswet’s Superman has just started production, there’s plenty of time for this mystery to unfold. In the meantime, my optimism on this matter won’t stop me from continuing to research potential DC characters Matthew Lillard should be playing.

For now, Man of Tomorrow flies into theaters on July 9, 2027; with Lanterns shining on HBO, starting August 16, 2026. And unless you have a Daily Planet subscription, you’ll want to stick around THS’ Movie News Archives, for all of the latest and greatest in truth, justice, and pop culture!
