The Boys’ Season 5 Finale Is Making Theatrical History, And I’m Sad I’m Probably Going To Miss It

Tomer Capone , Laz Alonso, Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, and Karen Fukuhara stand together and survey a situation in the woods in The Boys Season 5 Episode 4 - "King of Hell."

We are all one week closer to Prime Video’s ultimate showdown in The Boys Season 5; and it’s an event that promises to be an epic. Amazon’s darkly comic satire on superhero culture is winding up for its final pitch, which is worth celebrating on its own. So leave it to the folks behind the madness to come up with a pretty big TV news piece connected to the final ride of Billy Butcher and his band of anti-heroes.

This concluding chapter is not only heading to theaters, but it will be able to literally move lucky audience members. However, this excitement comes with a catch; so it’s time to dive into the news – both good and bad.

Good News: Amazon Is Sending The Boys’ Final Episode To 4DX!

Apparently, someone at Amazon-MGM Studios saw the massive Stranger Things 5 finale event in theaters, and proceeded to tell a room of decision makers “Hold my V1.” The Boys’ Season 5 finale to the big screen played out; especially with the additional twist of it being shown in 4DX.

As anyone who knows my work (or has read my Tron: Ares 4DX write-up from last year) can tell you, I’m a huge fan of premium format adventures. Seeing this announcement from the show’s official Twitter feed truly was a moment of super-powered excitement:

Alas, this is exactly where the tale twists into that bad news I mentioned earlier. While you might be imagining all of the possibly gruesome deaths, large scale disasters, and whatever The Boys may throw our way in 4DX – you might be lamenting the same reality I’m currently facing.

A half lit Antony Starr signals for silence from the crowd in The Boys S5.

Bad News: The Boys’ 4DX Engagements Sold Out Like Voughtcakes

Who would have thought that the idea of Homelander’s last dance in 4DX auditoriums would have been popular? In an offer similar to Alamo Drafthouse’s previous Resident Evil collab, all anyone needed to do was buy a concessions voucher – and the ticket was free! Whether or not they’ll be offering that ridiculously suggestive popcorn bucket modeled after Chace Crawford’s The Deep has yet to be seen.

Then again, considering that the capstone to The Boys Season 5 sold out most of (if not all) of its showings, that question may not be as pressing. Rather, the hot topic of the moment is whether or not Amazon-MGM Studios will schedule more showings in 4DX for fans to enjoy. It’s certainly something to ponder – as we continue to keep up with the diabolical final act that this comic adaptation that’s currently playing out.

Maybe Homelander himself will see it fit to smile on us all, and add some additional showtimes for this 4DX throwdown. With that in mind, don’t forget that The Boys Season 5 currently debuts new episodes, every Tuesday on Prime Video. And for all of the latest and greatest in pop culture developments – Vought-related or otherwise – keep your browsers patriotically tuned to THS!
