With the release of Hokum last week and Obsession on May 15, this month is shaping up to be a heavy-hitter for horror movies. Passenger, a mysterious movie with even more mysterious marketing, is next on the horizon. However, it seems like the marketing may be a bit more real than it seems. The set of Passenger, which was shot in Washington near the hunting grounds of the notorious Green River Killer, may have actually been haunted.

“It’s not your average horror movie,” says director André Øvredal. “On location, a lot of people had scary experiences.”

Some of those experiences can be seen being talked about by both cast and crew members in the featurette below. Some say the experience was demonic, while others say they feel like “they’re constantly being followed by someone.” Whether that is brought on by the atmosphere of the shoot or the choice of location is up to you, but it certainly lends an interesting twist in the marketing for this film. Were they being haunted by something demonic?

Star Jacob Scipio confesses that he “wanted a priest to bless our movie.” And I’ve got to say that I was already sold on this idea, because the haunted hitchhiker has always been one of my favorite ghost story tropes, but this featurette amps up the excitement factor. It will be interesting to see what Øvredal does with this story.
