Street Fighter Focuses On The Core Rivalry
Street Fighter just dropped a brand new trailer that focuses on Ryu and Kens life long rivalry. Paramount Pictures welcomes folks back into the world of Street Fighter on the big screen next month. But, the promotional tour for the movie rolls on with a new feature at about Ken versus Ryu.
Noah Centineo plays Ken in the new movie and Andrew Koji brings Ryu to Life. It’s clear that both of these men have a long history that can only be resolved through fists. Ken vs Ryu in the new movie!
Centineo clarifies that “Ken and Ryu go way, way back. They were friends and training partners for a very long time.” Trained by the same man, they were inseperable. But, something changed as Ryu went to live his life as a drifter. And, Ken decided to try to make himself a celebrity, with all the baggage that comes from that world.
Andrew Koji also muses that “They are brothers, not blood brothers. That in this story, have not spoken in a long time.” That estrangement makes for an interesting dynamic when the plot thrusts them together after whatever fractured their relationship to begin with.
THS’s Take On The Feature:
Everything that’s trickled out about the new Street Fighter has us at least a bit intrigued. Having Centineo and Koji be this sort of a strange tag team makes a ton of sense in adapting Street Fighter for a modern audience. That’s a strong enough narrative grounding for Chun-Li to pull them out of their funk to help a friend.
In addition, you know you’re going to get at least one knock-down drag-out fight between the boys before they team up. So, that will be a blast on the big screen too!

What’s Up With This Adaptation?
Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury.
But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!
Helmed by director Kitao Sakurai, Street Fighter is set to bring the battle from the arcade to the big screen with Hadoukens, roundhouses, and all your favorite characters.
