As if the world of MobLand’s fictional organized crime family isn’t messy enough, the Paramount+ streaming series’ future is now uncertain in a very unique way. That concern comes from previous reports claiming that star Tom Hardy has been let go from the hit drama – with Season 2 already in the can. The good news is that there is an apparent update that seems to put Season 3’s chances on a more positive path.
However, the bad news is that the stories behind the issues at hand are complicating things, simply by being in the press. Keep in mind, this is all without any sort of official confirmation from studio or talent representatives. But for those of you curious about what seems to be going on here, prepare for a bit of a ride that even the Harrigans would consider more than a bit of a mess.
MobLand Season 3 May See Tom Hardy Return After All
The good news, as pointed out above, is that MobLand completed filming Season 2 – with its release window still undetermined. However, that experience may have driven a rift between Hardy and two members of the MobLand brass: co-creator Jez Butterworth, and producer David Glassner.
Variety’s reporting on the Season 3 difficulties, via an unnamed source “close to the production,” updates the status on Tom Hardy’s association with the series as follows:
Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for Season 3, and things are being worked through creatively. … Others pointed out that the tensions could have been amicably resolved sooner, but the leaks from production “sources” alleging that Hardy has been fired have inflamed the situation, and are causing this drama to drag on.
That additional caveat makes for a proper reminder that not even what we’re presently discussing is coming from official sources. So be sure to put some extra salt between your pint glass and coaster while reading this story. Thankfully, this turn in the story is much more hopeful than the initial rumors that brought the MobLand team’s woes to the public eye. But seriously, keep an open mind with the rest of these alleged details.

Tom Hardy’s Reported MobLand Debacle Explained
The bigger picture behind MobLand’s current Season 3 is a classic tale of two sides. When this story started to break from Puck’s May 21st What I’m Hearing… newsletter, initial claims of Tom Hardy’s firing stemmed from supposedly diva style behavior. We’re talking “constantly [asking] to give notes on scripts,” as well as reports that the Venom star was frequently late to work.
Perhaps the most damning allegation is that of Tom Hardy apparently being frustrated by the show’s increasingly “ensemble showcase” nature. Meanwhile, on Mr. Hardy’s side of the fence, the report cited above cited these alleged artistic qualms as pain points:
Per sources, Hardy was displeased because Butterworth was delivering scripts late, sometimes just a week before shooting — which clashed with the star’s ability to rehearse. … Butterworth was also not present on set, meaning he could not deal with script issues as they arose.
No matter what the truth may be, there are some issues causing friction in Camp MobLand. Thankfully, it sounds like major strides are being made to clear up any misinformation, and hopefully page the road to a happier Season 3 workplace for all! That is, if the rumor mill can put on the brakes, and let the adults in the room get their jobs done!
