Post Summary
Dan Stevens is taking over the suit and armor for Robocop at the new Prime Video series. Deadline is reporting that Stevens has signed on as the hero in the upcoming series. He’ll star as Alex Murphy and the cyborg version known as RoboCop. The series comes from showrunner Peter Ocko and Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Amazon MGM Studios recently greenlit the series, which was in the works for several years. Alex Murphy was played by Peter Weller in the original Paul Verhoeven film.
Details About The RoboCop Series
The series has an eight-episode order with scripts from Peter Ocko. In the show it’ll follow a similar path to the movie with a giant tech conglomerate that convinces the city to place a powerful robot on its police force, with the consciousness of fallen officer, Alex Murphy.
Ocko is the showrunner and executive produces alongside James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett with Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Danielle Bozzone is also overseeing the series. Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, co-writers of the original RoboCop film, will also serve as executive producers.
This series isn’t the first time that RoboCop has been on TV though. After the original film in 1987, we had RoboCop 2 in 1990, RoboCop 3 in 1993, and a 2014 remake. There was also a 1994 TV series and the show RoboCop: Prime Directives in 2001. Peter Weller played the character in the first two movies with Robert Burke taking over the role in the third film and Joel Kinnaman in the 2014 remake.
The film was an important part of Amazon’s acquisition of MGM Studios in 2022.
What Is Dan Stevens Up To?
Dan Stevens has been busy of late with roles in Legacy of Spies, Dexter: Resurrection, The Terror: The Devil In Silver, and Onslaught for director Adam Wingard. He’ll also star in the upcoming film Godzilla x King: Supernova where he’ll reprise his role as Trapper.
This role is a step up for him moving to a hugely iconic character that tons of people know and love. We’ll have to see how the story translates to a series format like this.
We’ll keep you updated on all things RoboCop as we get more news.
