A Long Court Battle Comes To An End
AMC Networks is set to pay a $120 million settlement to five producers on The Walking Dead. Variety reports that the nine-year court case is close to wrapping up. Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Gale Anne Hurd, Charles Eglee, and Glen Mazzara are the producers named in the case. On Friday, AMC Networks came to an agreement with the creative team. If they hadn’t come to an agreement, there would have been further litigation. Here’s what we know.
Walking Dead Producers Settle For $120 Million
Five producers on The Walking Dead are set to receive a massive payment from AMC Networks. The hit show finds itself at the center of a nine-year legal struggle. Series creator Robert Kirkman is listed among the producers attached to the settlement. Variety’s report lists information from an SEC filing from AMC.
If the cable network hadn’t come to an agreement with the production group, there would have been a federal trial next month. AMC opted to settle for $120 million. Other producers named along with Kirkman included David Alpert, Gale Anne Hurd, Charles Eglee, and Glen Mazzara. It’s an interesting structure to a settlement. $85 million scheduled to be paid out this month. And, the other $35 million is to be dispersed before the end of January 2027.
What Does The Official Filing Say?
In the official filing, it reads, “The Settlement Agreement provides for total consideration of $120 million (the “Settlement Payment”) to the Plaintiffs consisting of (i) a cash payment of $85 million by September 18, 2026 and (ii) $35 million to be paid no later than January 31, 2027, which $35 million payment will be treated as an advance against Modified Adjusted Gross Receipts participation amounts that will accrue to the Plaintiffs under contractual arrangements relating to The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead.”
The added, “The Plaintiffs will continue to receive ordinary course Modified Adjusted Gross Receipts participation on a goforward basis, offset by the advance. With regard to the Settlement Payment, the Company.”
