The Call of Duty games are back with another entry in the longest-running FPS series. Infinity Ward and Activision have announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for consoles and PC this October. The game comes out on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 23rd, 2026.
Check out the reveal trailer for the game below.
Modern Warfare 4 has a new engine overhaul and it shows. The story for the game follows your usual team of soldiers and mercenaries as they try to stop global conflict from breaking out. This time the game focuses on the Korean peninsula and a war breaks out while the main character, Private Park, is stationed there.
The other side of the coin features Captain Price going up against Ghost after Price has gone rogue.
For those that want Call of Duty to return to the combat-focused elements, this game sure looks like its going to bring that. You’ll face entrenched battles instead of small firefights like in previous Modern Warfare games.
Here’s the official synopsis from Infinity Ward.
War erupts on the Korean Peninsula as North Korea launches a full-scale invasion that threatens to destabilize the world in Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 4. A young squad of South Korean soldiers fights to survive on the collapsing front lines, while half a world away a vengeful Captain Price wages a personal war from the shadows as he stays one step ahead of those hunting him. As Price’s off-book mission collides with the forces behind the invasion, the war spreads beyond anyone’s control.
The series brings back DMZ, a single-player campaign, and multiplayer modes with precise combat and movement.
The THS Take – An Interested But Apprehensive Level Of Hype For Modern Warfare 4

So from the initial look at the game, there’s tons of promise. A new engine, an actual story for the campaign, and Infinity Ward is saying all the right things. After digging deeper into their announcement post for the game, there’s even more to be excited about. I’m a huge multiplayer fan for Call of Duty. I play every game, so that’s really where the bread and butter of the series is for me. Having a cool campaign is a nice distraction for an afternoon and DMZ is an interesting enough game mode, but if the multiplayer isn’t good, the game isn’t. They’re making some big changes for Modern Warfare 4.
Starting off, they have removed bloom, so now hipfire shots will be more direct, predictable, and connected to where the weapon is pointed. That sounds like a big scary change, but it feels like its actually a great one. That means more aggressive players can be rewarded for running and gunning around the map instead of people camping in spots. Being aggressive is what Call of Duty should be all about, after all.
A Huge Change To Movement
Here’s the most important part from the announcement though: movement. Here’s the full quote.
Movement in Modern Warfare 4 is built around fluidity, control, and player freedom, delivering fast, grounded combat that keeps Operators responsive through every engagement while expanding how players move, fight, and adapt across the environment. Refined movement systems are designed to support a wide range of playstyles.
These changes plus all of the other ones make for an exciting start to a new Call of Duty game. Obviously, there’s going to be apprehension from people who have been burned in the past of the series. That’s fair, but like a new baseball season, everything is right in the world with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
