I’ve Been Waiting Years For Crazy Taxi: World Tour, And The Announcement Trailer Beautifully Redefines Crazy Money

An eager passenger points ahead as Axel speeds on in the Crazy Taxi: World Tour announcement trailer.

Sega’s showcase at this year’s Summer Game Fest is thrilling fans with some long-awaited titles. Alien Isolation 2’s announcement is just one example of something that gamers have been smiling over in recent days. At the same time, our first look at Crazy Taxi: World Tour – a reboot of Sega’s 1999 Sega classic – is something so great, it even overshadows my love of battling Xenomorphs.

Crazy Taxi: World Tour Will Put Axel Through His Toughest Adventure Yet

This year’s installment of this digital entertainment showcase officially ended speculation over whether Sega still intended to go through with this particular upgrade. Coming in 2027, Crazy Taxi: World Tour looks to be changing the game as we know it – while also bringing back some familiar haunts. Oh, and The Offspring are definitely part of the fun; so maybe you should start watching the Announcement Trailer below:

Beautiful, isn’t it? Always a kinetic ball of energy that sends you and your passengers streaking through traffic, the legacy of Crazy Taxi isn’t going to change in that respect. The footage is something that’s made the wait since Sega’s initial “Power Surge” tease back in 2023 even more rewarding in the long run.

However, as you can see in the Axel-centric clip above, we’re not just heading back to San Francisco. No, the rest of the globe awaits in World Tour, and there’s a pretty good reason as to why. Those details are in this synopsis of the 2027 title’s story:

In this new high-octane adventure, follow Axel as he chases down the mysterious masked villains who stole his beloved taxi. Tackle extreme missions around the world all while earning some CRAZY money!

Not only does it look like fellow drivers B.D., Joe, Gena, and Gus are absent from Crazy Taxi: World Tour, but now Axel has lost his cab! As it turns out, that’s not even the most insane element that’s coming to this insane adventure in public transit.

Prepare For New Routes, Classic Moves, And Shark Fishing?!

Our first look at Crazy Taxi’s latest is pretty vague, but there are some details available. Behold these early expectations, from World Tour’s official site:

  • Extreme Driving Perform outrageous drifts, catch insane air, and drive at crazy speeds across five different cities as you work to deliver passengers and complete a variety of missions and challenges.
  • World Tour Campaign Embark on a globetrotting adventure to recover Axel’s stolen car from a mysterious group of international car thieves in a compelling story-driven campaign. Encounter quirky characters, tackle a variety of missions, and navigate diverse terrain across five unique cities around the world.
  • Play Your Way From transporting passengers at top speed to tackling unique side missions and odd jobs across dynamic maps, there are countless ways to drive crazy and rake in big money. Unlock a wide variety of vehicles and customization options to create your own one-of-a-kind ride.
  • Modernizing A Classic – The classic gameplay of Crazy Taxi is back and better than ever!  Revisit the thrills of the original games in Arcade Mode, featuring a pulse-pounding race against the clock to earn the most cash possible.
  • Multiplayer Madness – Turn up the crazy and show off your outrageous driving skills against your friends or online competitors around the world and across platforms in multiple action-packed multiplayer modes.

That’s quite a bit on tap for Sega’s revamp of Crazy Taxi, and landing a shark with a fishing pole is only part of what’s ahead.

A Very Crazy (Taxi) Future

The description of Crazy Taxi: World Tour’s contents hint at a Campaign that sees this arcade mainstay branch further away from its home turf. Thanks to the franchise’s return to console gaming, this narrative driven tour appears to bind the twin impulses to break fare records and best wild challenges.

Should the hype hold up, and if World Tour turns out to be a hit, maybe we’ll see the series’ future get even brighter. Perhaps even to the point where, in the wake of Streets of Rage’s upcoming movie, we’ll see a revival late director Richard Donner’s long abandoned movie pitch.

Crazy Taxi: World Tour isn’t set to hit PC and current gen consoles until its unspecified release window in 2027. So be sure to keep your ears open, your eyes peeled, and a browser tab tuned to THS Gaming News for all of the latest and greatest.
