‘Minions And Monsters’ Shows Off Behind The Scenes Featurette For Music Just Before Theatrical Debut

Minions and Monsters is all set to make its hilariously theatrical debut on July 1, 2026. On that day, Illumination’s latest addition to their Minions prequel movies, featuring the work of director and writer Pierre Coffin and co-writer Brian Lynch and starring Coffin himself in the titular role as the voice of the Minions, will be ready for everyone to enjoy. In fact, that day is less than a week from today as of this writing, so you all won’t have long to wait at all. It might also be why Illumination are so eager to promote this movie for its impending debut, thus explaining why we’re getting this for today.

Illumination is proud to promote the impending theatrical debut of Minions and Monsters with a brand new featurette video. This particular featurette is titled “Minions & Monsters | Behind the Score with John Powell”, and as you can tell by that title, it’s basically a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the score of the upcoming movie. An upcoming movie that you can get tickets for right now directly from their official website, by the way.

As for this featurette video itself? Well, you can watch it either on YouTube, or just look below for that and the synopsis for Minions and Monsters:

Minions & Monsters | Behind the Score with John Powell + Synopsis

Fresh off the worldwide blockbuster success of summer 2024’s funniest comedy, Despicable Me 4, Illumination expands its joyful animated universe with a riotous new chapter, featuring all-new characters, in the biggest global animated franchise in history: Minions & Monsters.

This is the rambunctious, ridiculous and totally true story of how the Minions conquered Hollywood, became movie stars, lost everything, unleashed monsters onto the world and then banded together to try and save the planet from the mayhem they had just created.

The acclaimed voice cast includes Academy Award® winner Allison Janney, two-time Academy Award® winner Christoph Waltz, Academy Award® winner Jeff Bridges, two-time Academy Award® nominee Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch (Nouvelle Vague) and Academy Award® nominee and comedy iconoclast Trey Parker, co-creator of South Park. The cast also includes Saturday Night Live alum Bobby Moynihan and Phil LaMarr (FuturamaKing of the Hill).

Minions & Monsters is directed by Academy Award® nominee Pierre Coffin, a director of the first three Despicable Me films and the first Minions film. Coffin has also provided the voice for the Minions since their film debut in 2010. The film is written by Brian Lynch (MinionsThe Secret Life of Pets films) and Pierre Coffin and is produced by Illumination’s Academy Award® nominated founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and by Bill Ryan (executive producer, The Super Mario Bros. Movie). The executive producer is Brian Lynch.

More than ten years after their creation, the Minions have become the most iconic animated characters of their generation. Globally recognized and beloved by fans of all ages, they have propelled Illumination’s Despicable Me and Minions to a global box office of more than $5.6 billion.

Minions & Monsters Shows Off Huge Orchestra Ensemble Just Before Debut

Watching that featurette was a bit of a surprise for me. Yes, I am aware that all movies to some degree have people working on the score for them. Still, I was surprised by the entire orchestra working on the score for Minions & Monsters. It’s a true orchestra in the classical sense, with violins, trumpets, cellos, and everything else you would expect for such an orchestra. It makes the movie sound like a symphonic opera with accompanying animation, which is absolutely hilarious considering the subject matter of the movie. I do believe that audiophiles will appreciate the amount of work Illumination put into the music when they get to see it on July 1.

What do you all think? Does seeing the music behind Minions & Monsters in action make you want to give it a watch in theaters? Tell us your musically minion-like thoughts in the comments section below.
