Disney announced a new animated series based on the Kingdom Hearts video game series at D23 on Friday night. The new series is coming to Disney+. It has been greenlit and was developed in a partnership with video game creator Tetsuya Nomura and the creative team at SQUARE ENIX, the series reimagines the iconic adventure with a brand-new story that will expand on the universe of Kingdom Hearts while celebrating the characters that have captured the hearts of millions of fans around the world.
“Kingdom Hearts has captivated gamers everywhere with its unique blend of adventure and imagination,” said Ayo Davis, president, Disney Kids & Family. “There’s something really exciting about taking a world fans have spent years exploring through the games and bringing it to life in a completely new way. And with a creative team that is working closely with the legendary Tetsuya Nomura, our new series will be unmistakably ‘Kingdom Hearts,’ while giving fans a whole new way to experience the world they love.”
It was also announced at the D23 Showcase that Kingdom Hearts 4 would have a crossover with Coco coming to the game. This is surely great news for fans of the series. There’s never been an animated series based on the games before. With such deep lore and stories to draw from
Fans Of Kingdom Hearts Are Eating Good Lately
With this announcement and the fourth game coming out for current generation consoles, fans of the series have a lot to look forward to. Kingdom Hearts joins the likes of Dragon Striker, Phineas and Ferb, and Big City Greens as original Disney+ animated series.
Kingdom Hearts started off on the PlayStation 2 and is a series of role-playing games created through collaboration with Disney and Square Enix. The first game was released in March 2002, and has expanded to multiple consoles, generations, and universes. The series has shipped over 39 million units worldwide.
