How The Grinch Stole Christmas Sequel w/ Jim Carrey In Development

Jim Carrey Is Coming Back

Grinch fans rejoice because Jim Carrey is coming back for a sequel. Ron Howard is also attached for the unnamed Grinch sequel. This news comes as the character has endured in popularity over the last two decades. Recently, some fun live action appearances at the Universal Parks helped throw a new spotlight on the green icon. It’s unclear at this time if any of the other stars are poised to return for this prequel effort.

How The Grinch Stole… A Prequel?

Universal and Imagine Entertainment are currently developing a sequel to How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Jim Carrey and Ron Howard are confirmed to return in this sequel effort. We’re drawing on the 2000s live action Grinch here instead of the other versions that have popped up or the beloved animated movie from decades ago. Brian Grazer is handling this Grinch project for Imagine Entertainment.

In The Hollywood Reporter this week, we also have a writer for the Grinch sequel. Alec Berg of Silicon Valley and Curb Your Enthusiasm fame will team with Jeff Schaefer and David Mandel for the upcoming film. They all worked on The Cat in the Hat back in 2003. (Remember Mike Myers? Well a lot of kids rolling around now do!) It’s full-steam ahead for The Grinch moving forward. What a time to be alive.

THS’s Take On Grinch-Mania

You could probably see this move coming from miles away at this point. Beloved social media star Nick Darnell Has been thrilling guests at the Los Angeles Universal Studios Hollywood for over a year now. And, that animated feature from a couple years ago did amazing on streaming. That movie was also scored by California native Tyler the Creator.

For the last two years,

of most Americans holiday movie diet. The two weeks leading up to December always have Carrie’s version of this delightful character in a prominent place. Notably, amongst Charlie Brown, rudolph, and Frosty the Snowman. These kinds of animated features are locks for the holiday season.

But, unlike those entries, Home Alone and How The Grinch Stole Christmas stand apart. They have a secret weapon when it comes to trying to get people to watch something during all that family time. Namely, Millennial and Gen-X nostalgia at its absolute height. And, because the Grinch has been so saturated over the last half decade, you’ve got an entire new generation of fans who know the character, love the concepts, and are excited to see more of this cantankerous protagonist.
