While Inside Out 2 made it a tight race for the number one spot; it narrowly beat out A Quiet Place: Day One at movie theatres this weekend.

A Tight Race For Number One

The movie is also now the first movie of 2024 to reach $1 billion. This is after 19 days of release. The movie has a 100-day theatrical release, so the fact it was able to make $1 billion in one-fifth of the time it has been in theatres is quite impressive. This is a notable win for Pixar, Disney, and Movie Theatres overall.

As per Box Office Mojo, Inside Out 2 was the number one movie this weekend. The movie brought in $57.4 million. This was in line with my predictions last week. The movie did lose 43% of its box office revenue from last week, but that was not enough to take away the number one spot from the animated sequel.

Joseph Quinn as “Eric” and Lupita Nyong’o as “Samira” in A Quiet Place: Day One from Paramount Pictures.

A Quiet Place: Day One was no slouch at the box office, however. The movie was estimated to bring in $40 million, but it exceeded expectations and brought in $53 million. Undoubtedly, good buzz from critics and other moviegoers certainly helped drive people to see the movie. A Quiet Place: Day One‘s debut is the highest in the franchise, ensuring that we’ll get more stories in this franchise for years to come.

The Rest Of The Box Office

Horizon: An American Saga—Chapter 1 debuted in the third place spot, earning $11 million. The movie cost $100 million to make, so it’s uncertain if it will be profitable, but it’s certainly not a good start.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die was fourth with $10.3 million.

Finally, Kalki 2898 AD was in fifth with $5.4 million.

Next Week Belongs To The Minions

Despicable Me 4 is the big release next week, and it’s projected to make $60 million to $80 million next weekend. This will put it in direct competition with Inside Out 2 as both are vying for the family audience.

Despicable Me 4 will likely lower Inside Out 2‘s box office so I expect it’ll be number one. I don’t think it’ll impact A Quiet Place: Day One, and I expect that movie to be in second place more than likely.
