Two “Star Wars” alums unite for a love letter to Southern Californian movie music.

Searchlight Releases New Trailer and Poster for “BEHEMOTH!”

Written and directed by Tony Gilroy (“Andor”), “BEHEMOTH!” is about a very talented cellist played by Pedro Pascal (“The Mandalorian”) who has successfully managed to avoid stardom despite his massive talent and resume. Searchlight Pictures dropped a new poster and official trailer that features fun camera work, a stacked cast, and, more importantly, a love of connected music making.

“’BEHEMOTH!’ is a love letter to the movie music of Southern California, the tradition and value and beauty of it,” Gilroy said in a statement from Searchlight. “I want audiences to lean in and say, Is that how they create a film score? We’re taking you someplace you’ve never been, but that’s always been part of your life. No one’s ever really gone into an appreciation for where the music comes from in cinema — really looked at it or the people who make that music.”

What’s the Movie About?

“BEHEMOTH!” introduces Alex Serian (Pedro Pascal), a gifted cellist returning to Los Angeles after twenty years on the road. Born into a legendary yet odd Hollywood musical dynasty, including his bitter composer father (Hank Azaria), harpist mother (JoBeth Williams), and viola-playing brother (Will Arnett), Alex was a child prodigy pushed into a high-pressure classical career. In the trailer, you can see his colleagues and friends reacting strongly to a video of him performing on stage at a very young age.

Alex comes back home due to his mother’s declining health and a spicy personal life, taking on local session work. But of course, things are never that simple because the music cues trigger painful flashbacks that reveal his complex past, including questions over whether he might have a secret kid somewhere out there. “BEHEMOTH!” looks to be an introspective peek into an avoidant, but talented man, who might be able to free himself through the music.

“Music is an incredible trigger for memory. There are songs, if I hear them, I’m right there, back in time. For Alex, this sensitivity is massively amplified. He’s been deep diving into music every day of his life, and it’s a life that’s always had the shadow of something incomplete, so as the cues begin pulling him back in time, he begins to feel he’s being led somewhere. He’s a passenger on an unexpected quest that comes into focus musically,” Gilroy said.

“BEHEMOTH!” releases in theaters Dec. 4, 2026.
