Lionsgate recently announced that Paul Anthony Kelly will play Douglas inThe Housemaid’s Secret, the highly-anticipated sequel to the $400-million-grossing blockbuster The Housemaid, opposite Sydney Sweeney and Kirsten Dunst. Michele Morrone will also return to star as Enzo, reprising his role from the first film. Paul Feig returns to direct the project. Screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the first book, will also return to write The Housemaid’s Secret, based on the bestseller by Freida McFadden.
Lionsgate identified and optioned Freida McFadden’s literary trilogy (plus a fourth entry, a short story) early on, long before the books became New York Times bestsellers. With The Housemaid’s Secret set to enter production later this year, the studio anticipates adapting even more of McFadden’s beloved thrillers from the world of The Housemaid in the years ahead, including a stage production of the first book.
The Housemaid opened to rave reviews in 2025. Starring Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, The Housemaid follows Millie Calloway (Sweeney), a young woman with a troubled past who becomes the live-in maid for a wealthy family whose household hides dark secrets. What transpires is a a sexy and seductive game of betrayal, power, and, most importantly of all, secrets.
Feig’s direction is, as That Hollywood Show’s Kevin Fenix put it in his review of The Housemaid, “a masterclass in crowd control.”
Kelly, who is currently portraying John F. Kennedy, Jr. in Ryan Murphy’s Love Story, will make his film debut with this role. His involvement was announced via Instagram, with a video of Kelly reading McFadden’s The Housemaid’s Secret. Prior to arriving onscreen, Kelly also appear in the upcoming season of American Horror Story.
About The Housemaid’s Secret
In The Housemaid’s Secret, Millie returns, taking a job keeping house for Mrs. Garrick (Dunst), a woman she’s never allowed to see, and her husband in their penthouse in the city. Millie quickly becomes suspicious of Mrs. Garrick’s husband, Douglas (Kelly). However, she quickly discovers the truth behind locked doors that threatens to expose secrets far darker than her own, and ones she is not prepared for.
Douglas is a reclusive and seemingly controlling tech CEO who does not let Millie see his wife. The suspicions this awake in Millie lead to her theory that Douglas is doing something sinister to Mrs. Garrick behind closed doors.
The film will open on 12/17/27 in wide release.
