Music can define the best moments of our lives, or in some cases be the focal point of what we feel is our life’s purpose. It’s safe to say many of Green Day’s fans would agree that they fall into that latter bucket, as the band continues to make its mark on pop culture. As if that wasn’t enough, we now have our first look at the “Green Day comedy” teased last yearn, a rock n’ roll road trip picture called Nimrods.
It’s Never Too Late For A Road Trip Like Nimrods
Consider the trailer I’m about to show you a gift to the world from distributor Inaugural Films. Nimrods boasts an all star roster of talent including, but not limited to, Mason Thames, McKenna Grace, and Jenna Fischer; and they’re all here for the music, man. Check out the trailer for Nimrods below, and keep an eye out for some of the cast’s very special members that you totally can’t see in its thumbnail image:
The August 14th release date could not be a more perfect time to unleash a flick like this into theaters. Even if this tale involves a once-in-a-lifetime New Year’s Eve gig opening for Green Day, the road trip aspect feels primed for enjoyment – right before some viewers head back to school. So it may be wise to expect a rise in marching band enrollments, garage band formations, and vinyl sales by time September rolls around.
At the same time, the adults in the room will probably love this film’s mix of pop punk nostalgia, complete with Green Day music. Not to mention supporting players like Fred Armisen, Bobby Lee, and Angela Kinsey promises a fun game of “I know them!” when not getting caught up in the emotions of Nimrods. This could very well be the movie that helps parent and child bond over music…while also giving the kids a bit of grace with the noise from their hypothetical garage bands.

Green Day’s Close Involvement Is A Good Sign
It feels fitting for Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool themselves to be on hand to lovingly mock a band like the one at the heart of Nimrods. Never afraid to have a good laugh at their own expense, that attitude would seem to apply towards the softer side of things too. It also helps that the band also serve as producers on the film – which speaks to the sort of business acumen that’s seen the band form partnerships like that between their Punk Bunny Coffee and American Dad!
Clearly writer/director Lee Kirk’s Nimrods is a heartfelt ode to the sort of rock fueled adolescence that inspired Green Day, as well as their fans and imitators. The official press release for the film even boasts that the narrative is “based on the exploits of Green Day and their years of living in a tour van;” so the band being hands on with this one feels quite fitting.
Though the band clearly retains its counterculture credentials, as seen in their big performance opening for last February’s Super Bowl LX. At the same time, the musical icons are the same ones behind one of the definitive bittersweet graduation songs – “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).” Holding a lot more heart in their discography than most may acknowledge, Nimrods just might see us all tearing up before the band reaches their final destination.
Nimrods takes the stage at a theater near you on August 14th. So feel free to crank up the tunes this lighthearted romp calls to mind, while checking out the rest of the best and brightest updates courtesy of THS Movie News!
