To borrow a phrase from another pop culture juggernaut in the Disney family, we’re in the endgame now. It is officially one month until one of my most anticipated Fall 2025 movies hits theaters, in the form of Tron: Ares. We’ve seen quite a bit of wonder flashed about in the marketing campaign, but today of all days, the House of Mouse has just two words that should get any User or Program pumping their fists: Flynn Lives!
FLYNN LIVES
Coincidence? I know it’s not, as that’s the title of the latest reel to promote director Joaquim Rønning’s turn at the joystick of the mythic Tron legacy. That being said, please enjoy this video, and try not to get too emotional:
Wow. That takes me straight back to December 2010, standing in line for the advanced screening of Tron: Legacy at one of my local IMAX theaters. Bridging the history between the first two movies, you can basically get the bare necessities when it comes to knowing the world of Tron. (Provided you haven’t already read our Tron: Ares Crash Course, that is.)
You can basically observe why Jeff Bridges’ Kevin Flynn is so big in this universe, as well as what The Grid stands for – glitches and all. And of course, what would an Ares promo be without some more sizzle, teasing how Julian Dillinger (Evan Peters) is about to open a door between worlds that cannot be closed easily. Throw in some of that sweet Nine Inch Nails music, and you’ve got a picture of what to expect on October 10th.
I still can’t get over the appearance of the Classic Grid, one of three worlds that Ares will be introducing us to very shortly. Offering the presence of the past, present, and future in one picture Tron: Ares looks to be doing the franchise’s history right.
In the case of an average movie, a month feels practically next door to the release in question. However, seeing as Tron: Ares has been in people’s minds since 2010, seeing Sam Flynn and Quorra riding into the sunrise, this relatively short frame of time feels like an eternity.
If you’re operating on Grid Time like me, don’t worry. Tron: Ares tickets are on sale now, with some folks being lucky enough to have an IMAX near them that will be running an early access double feature. I’ll admit, it’s a prospect tempting enough to engage in the extra travel time to head out to New York, just so I can relive Tron: Legacy before stepping into the future of The Grid (Grid, grid, grid, grid.)
