A select few critics have already seen Disclosure Day, the new film from Steven Spielberg coming out in June. They’ve been allowed to post social media reactions from the film, and let’s just say that we’re even more hyped for Disclosure Day than we were before. What did the critics have to say about the film? Well, it sure feels like they’re united in it being a return to form for Spielberg and Sci-Fi fans.
The new film brings Spielberg back to the realm of UFOs and aliens like his previous films War of the Worlds and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. There’s been plenty of attention paid to UAPs and other phenomena in the news lately with actual disclosure of alien life seeming closer than ever. Unlike people in believing in alien life or UFOs, the critics seem united that the film is a smash.
Critics React To Disclosure Day

Friend of THS Bill Bria had this to say about the film:
#DisclosureDay is the weirdest movie Spielberg’s ever made (complimentary). Breathtaking compositions, David Koepp’s X-FILES-meets-The Bible script is one big high-wire act, Emily Blunt’s most accomplished performance, John Williams’ best score in years. Riveting, moving stuff.
It’s just so invigorating and refreshing in this day and age to walk into a sci-fi thriller and have some idea of its topics and themes but no clue where it’s going. I was hooked from minute one and it never let go.
Germain Lussier had this to say, which echoed other reactions:
I loved #DisclosureDay. A dense roller coaster ride blending chase film, love story, & mystery, all wrapped in sci-fi wonder. It’s Spielberg’s best film in 20 years, filled w/ all the magic that makes his films so special, plus an all-time character/performance by Emily Blunt.
Another friend of THS, Tessa Smith had this to say and was forceful in the emotion that the film provides:
Disclosure Day is ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL! Truly something special. I was hanging onto every word, captivated by the story as it all played out. The score perfectly elevates every single scene. Part mystery, part Twlight Zone, something new entirely. I shed a tear at the end. WOW.
Those all range from great to absolutely smashing reactions to the film. Disclosure Day comes from director Steven Spielberg. It was written by David Koepp with a story from Spielberg. The film stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, and Wyatt Russell.
The THS Take On Disclosure Day
It also seems like they’re saying that the movie is a better experience if you go into it completely blind. Like most Spielberg movies, this one is holding its cards pretty close to the vest. There’s plenty to see, but we don’t know exactly how or why these aliens are on Earth. Then there’s the question of what their strange language means and the animals in the film. Being a Spielberg film, this is surely going to be adventurous and thrilling. But what are the deeper themes of the film? Spielberg is playing coy in interviews about exactly what disclosure means.
Now obviously, there could be concerns about this movie. It’s Spielberg, so the film will be beautifully shot, but could it fall victim to its own hype? Or could it be too bloated with themes and modern-day feelings about the topic of disclosure? Recent Spielberg films have ranged from good to great, but they haven’t really felt like the all-timers he’s put out in the past. War of the Worlds was really the last time he did something in this vein, and that movie is technically stunning, but it falls short in some aspects as well.
One thing is for sure though: to capture those longtime sci-fi fans, the film has to be thrilling and adventurous. It also has to make a bit of sense. This topic of disclosure means a lot to people out there these days, and that’s something that they have to nail. I’ll be seated for Disclosure Day with these things in mind.
If you want to see some of the film, here’s the final trailer they just released from the film.
If these critics are right, we all should have a great time at the movies when Disclosure Day releases on June 12th, 2026.
