It has been a little over a month since The Vampire Lestat came to an end and the post-Interview With the Vampire blues have set in. Even with the news that Queen of the Damned is coming, it is still sad to not have our vampires on our screen week after week. But that just means its time to talk about why the Immortal Universe on AMC is the best, right?
The Vampire Lestat is technically the third season in the series Interview With the Vampire. But much like the Anne Rice books that inspired the series, the show is following the titles of the books they’re exploring. The first book in Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles was that of Interview With the Vampire, focusing on Louis de Pointe du Lac’s (Jacob Anderson) telling of events. Then, in The Vampire Lestat, Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) got his time.
The third book in the franchise is Queen of the Damned and continues with Lestat as the main character but telling the story of the Queen of Vampires, Akasha (Sheila Atim). All that is exciting but that doesn’t mean we’re not still missing the weekly adventures of Lestat, Louis, and the vampires they find along the way.
Part of what makes Interview With the Vampire such a fun story to dive into is how many vampires we get to meet. You may love Louis and Lestat together or maybe you’re a shipper of Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) and Armand (Assad Zaman)! If neither are your poison, there is Claudia (Delainey Hayles) and Madeleine (Roxane Duran). The possibilities are endless to explore this world and it makes missing the show a little less hard.
But wait, there’s more
The Vampire Lestat brought a unique challenge to the show. Reid was bringing to life Lestat’s “rockstar” era. In the novel, he decides to put his music out into the world and the show was truthful to that part of Lestat’s journey. And to celebrate that, fans in New York got to experience a “One Night Only” concert with Reid as the Vampire Lestat himself! And now AMC is releasing the footage from the concert on August 23!
The concert (which was part of the NYC premiere for the season) included songs like “The Loneliness,” “Long Face,” and more. And those who went to the panel at San Diego Comic-Con got a sneak peek of the footage. So no, it isn’t a surprise 8th episode of The Vampire Lestat but it is more content for fans to enjoy.
In the meantime, why not re-read (or read for the first time) the books that Rice wrote? Or rewatch the 1994 film starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt as Lestat and Louis? We don’t know yet when Queen of the Damned will be released by AMC but hey, at least we know that we will have more of Reid and Anderson as our favorite toxic vampires once more. This time, with the Queen watching over everything.
