Scott Gimple Teases Epic Reunion For ‘The Walking Dead’

The Walking Dead has been going on with various spin-offs and side stories since the mainline story ended in 2022 with an eleven season run. However, fans have been clamoring for a reunion between Daryl and Rick since then. Other characters like Maggie, Carol, and Negan have also continued to hold the torch for the series with these side stories. We haven’t seen Rick or Michonne since their six-episode miniseries. According to Scott Gimple, the Chief Content Officer for The Walking Dead, that could change at some point.

He recently sat down with our friend Brandon Davis on an episode of The Brandon Davis Show. Scott had plenty to say throughout the nearly hour and a half long conversation between the two, but he had some really juicy things to say about his plan for a reunion among the popular characters of The Walking Dead.

He not only talked about it, but he promised there is “absolutely still a hope,” for a reunion series.

“It’s very challenging for a variety of reasons which have everything to do with 2026 production but things change very quickly.” he said. “I’ve drawn up all sorts of garden of forking paths kind of plans. I would hope… it might be a minute, it might be tomorrow, I might be off at the retirement home but I think eventually we’ll get there and I think there’s enough stuff to handle; source material, emotional, plotwise, everything that we could do something brilliant.”

The Ones Who Live With Some Pacing Issues

Rick and Michonne in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live

Gimple was the showrunner for The Walking Dead for a long time before being promoted to the Chief Content Officer role before its ninth season. The reunion between Rick and Michonne on AMC was hotly anticipated but according to fans, ended a bit quicker than they would have liked. Here’s what Scott had to say about that.

“You also have to understand, that last episode, near the end of the fifth episode, that’s when the strike hit, There were just some challenges production wise towards the end. I look at that last episode and there’s aspects that I’m very proud of because of some certain limitations we were under but, yeah, I could’ve done 3-to-4 more episodes. That show was about Rick and Michonne and telling deep stories about them that intersected. WE did have a great story, not to pat ourselves on the back. I really liked what we did with Jadis with Pollyanna [McIntosh], with Seth [Gilliam] with Gabriel… but say you have four more episodes? With Terry O’Quinn? Yeah, you’re gonna have a Beale episode.”

Gimple concluded the interview with this about the plans and the thought-gone CRM.

“Put it this way, you don’t know they’re not [our Thanos],” Gimple said. “They might not be totally gone.”

The THS Take – Fans Want More TWD

The Walking Dead Rick and Daryl.

The Walking Dead is still strong among its most passionate fans. The fact that even nearly four years after the main show wrapped up, some of the disappointment that stung fans about spinoffs hasn’t made them drop their fandom. Rick and Daryl getting back together for one last ride really is the final thing that we need to see. It might also be nice to see some of the other characters meeting back up.

What would Rick and Daryl say about the years that Maggie and Negan have spent or what Carol is up to? That’s what we have to work with as The Walking Dead fans going forward. So this conversation with Scott Gimple is a great one and TWD fans should be looking up.
