Nintendo announced during their Legend of Zelda Nintendo Direct that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is heading to the Switch 2 on November 5th, 2026th. This is a ground-up remake of one of the most beloved and greatest games of all time. It’ll have improved visuals and is now available for preorder from major retailers in both physical and digital formats. There’s also a bunch of 40th Anniversary hardware coming out for the release of the new game. You can get the digital version of the game for $59.99 and the physical version for $69.99.
Nintendo also announced that the first printing of physical copies of the game would include “textured foil cover art.” It’s available while supplies last.
They’re also putting out a Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary variant of the Nintendo Switch 2 console that is up for preorder but selling out quickly. It has Zelda imagery and special Joy-Con 2 controllers but does not come with the pack-in game. They also announced a 40th Anniversary Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller with Zelda imagery on it.
The new game is a full remake of the 1998 Nintendo 64 game. This won’t add new gameplay content to the game, but will make smaller changes like adding voice-overs for other characters and slightly changing how the camera works in places like Hyrule Castle. Most of these are quality-of-life changes including a jump button, a roll/run button, and motion control aiming. You can even hum a song to your Switch 2 console and Link will play back the song for you. They also added anb objective menu that’ll help players along if they get lost in the game.
This isn’t the first time that the game has been remade though, the Nintendo 3DS had an excellent remake with 3D and more quality-of-life improvements. You can also play the original game on the N64 and on Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack.
What Do We Think Of This Remake?
Remakes these days are important parts of gaming. People want to play these classic games but sometimes those older gaming conventions and gameplay turn people off. This is a great way for Nintendo to get people into playing the game and it also helps their bottom line by selling tons of copies. The new remake hits stores in early November, just before Grand Theft Auto VI. While we’re not picking sides here, I’ll certainly be checking out Ocarina Of Time.
