THS’s Take on The New Docuseries
What more can I say? Apparently, a lot! JAŸ-Z has one of the most beloved discographies in the history of Rap as a genre. Any conversation between a creative force like Rubin and JAŸ-Z is appointment TV for any fan of the genre. So, JAŸ-Z In 8 has to be on the shortlist for most-anticipated music documentary efforts this year. That much is clear from the rip.
I really don’t think I can put it in to better words than Pusha T. He’s a star in his own right. As The New York Times named JAŸ-Z one of the best American Songwriters, they interviewed his fellow rapper about this illustrious career. Unsurprisingly, he had a lot to say!
He’s talking about a real experience, and his mission is to articulate, in the best possible way, his feelings at the time.
When you draw from real experience, there’s a level of passion that comes across — I’ve always felt like that was something he did very well.
Even his more commercial records, they always still carried a heavy weight of lyricism.
As time goes on, those older albums deepen in meaning. And, at the same time, the work that JAŸ-Z has done on records like 4:44 or Blueprint III are still being combed through with a fine toothed comb. Revisiting the earlier song provides younger Hip-Hop fans a nice entrypoint to understanding rhyme scheme and how the genre functions at the highest levels.
That kind of craft is worth celebrating. And, we don’t really feel like that needs to be argued very vehemently. JAŸ-Z is a real-life legend and these kinds of documentaries give the kind of access that fans crave.
